Description

J BATLEY. Improvement in Childrens Cribs.
fr Sra'rns PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN BAILEY, OF ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHILDRENS CRlBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,745, dated November 5, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN BATLEY, of Orange, county of Essex, State of New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Childrens Cribs, of which the following is a specication:
Ihe object of my invention is to construct and manufacture cribs for children which are given a lateral motion by being rocked, which is more comfortable l and salubrious than a swinging or longitudinal motion.
In order to describe my invention more fully, I will refer to the accompanying drawing forin-A ing part of this speciication.
Figure I is a side View of a childs crib embodying my invention. Fig. II is an end view, representing the hanging ofthe crib by aid of the two hangers. Fig. III is a cut sectional view through line :c 50, Fig. I.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a frame resting on four legs, a a. To the side pieces b b of the frame A is fastened the cross-piece B, the top of which receives two curves, c c-these curves to correspond with the circle which the crib describes when being rocked. O C are two stands or stand-- arde, fastened to the center of the end pieces d el of the frame A, which serve as supports for the crib D. To the top of these standards O G are pivoted either the hanger E, as represented in Fig. III, or the cross-piece F, fastened as represented in Fig. II. In Fig. III the single hanger E is also pivoted to the bottom end piece g of the crib D. In Fig. II the two hangers G G are pivoted to the cross-piece F, and also to the bottom end piece f of the crib D. Between the bottom side pieces e e of the crib Dis placed a cross-piece, H, to which the guides t' t' are fastened. These guides, having rollers jj which roll on the two curves o c, serve to give the crib a steady lateral motion, which is in all respects preferable to any known or hitherto-used method of rocking children.
Having thus fully described my invention, I desire to claim- The hangers E Gr G, the standards G C, the cross-pieces F B H, the curves c c, the guides t' z', and the rollers j j, in combination with the frame A and crib D, substantiallyr as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
JOHN BATLEY.
