sAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PRINTERS COMiPOSING-STICKS.
Specification formin g part of Letters Patent No. 132,722, dated November 5, 1872.
N cttw@ and Objects of the Invent-lon.
My invention relates to printers composingsticks; and has for its object to produce a cheaper, stronger, and better-finished article than has heretofore been made, as will be set forth hereafter.
Description of the Drawing.
Figure l is a view of the blank from which the stick is made. Fig. 2 is a top view of the stick.
General Description.
The blank A is struck from suitable sheet metal by dies of the proper shape, the holes for adjusting the gage being formed in it by the same operation. The blank is then polished on both sides, and, thus prepared, the
pieces al a2 that are to constitute the sides of the stick are turned up at right angles to the bed of it by a die or other suitable means. To form a smooth and neat joint, and give the corner of the stick strength, the end b of the side al projects slightly beyond the side a2 when both are turned up, and this end is thenk beveled off, bent over, and soldered to the side cl2, as seen at Fig. 2, l). This is the most desirable way of forming the joint, although it may be made immediately on the corner of the stick without lapping. The gage and clamping-screw are like those ordinarily used in composing-sticks, as will be readily understood from the drawing.
Claim.
As a new and improved'article of manufacture a printers7 composingstick, the sides and bottom of which are formed from a single
