UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J EIBERWEISER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO FREDERICK GROENE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN STRAW-CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,645, dated October 29, 1872.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHN E1BERWEISER,0 Cincinnati, county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Straw-Gutters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification.
The drawing represents my improvement in a side elevation.
My improvement relates to that class of straw and feed cutters wherein an endless belt is made use of in feeding the stock to. the out- It consists in hanging a presser within the feeding-trough, which, bvits weight, holds the stock firmly in place while the knife is making the cut. it further consists in placing a roller a short distance in the rear of the said presser, directly across the trough, and so arranged as to move up or down with freedom as the thickness of,the stock may vary, the purpose of which is to gradually compress the straw on entering the cutting-box and placing it in positions to be easily out.
In construction my improvement is as follows: 'A is one of the side boards of the feeding-trough, to which is jointed the weighted lever B.- A connecting-rod, b, communicating to a cam, e, on the main shaft, elevates the presser B at every forward movement of the stock. '0 is a roller journaled in the vibrating frame 0 so as to keep a continuous pressure on the stock. The cam giving motion to the connecting-rod is not fully represented in the drawing. The relative motionof the endless apron and the presserB is so timed as to alternate.
The operation of my improvement is as follows: Straw being placed into the feedingtrough, the endless apron by successive movements brings it under the roller G and next under presser B. The former rises to the height necessary automatically, while the latter is raised by the cam, as above set forth. As the straw enters it is slightly compressed by the roller, and "as it passes on is still further compressedby the lever, making it easier to be cut in this condition.
Having thus described myinvention, what I- claim as new, .and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The presser B, hung in frame 0, and arranged between the roller O and the cuttingknife, when operated by connecting-rod b and cam e, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
' JOHN EIBERWEISER.
