To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, STANISLAW OBOLE- wIoz, a citizen of Poland, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, (whose post-ofiice address is care of Patent Experimental Co., No. 2236 Mich igan street, Detroit, Michigan,) have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Mop and Brush Handles, of which the following is a specification. v

The primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved construction of brush and mop holders especially designed for use in connection with cleanlng of motor vehicles in which a cloth mthe form of a small mop may be easily and quickly secured in position upon the handle head for purposes of dusting or cleaning an automobile.

A further object of the invention is to provide a combined brush and mop handle that is designed either to holda brush or a mop and wherein the brush or mop engaging jaws are located at one side of the handle so that the brush or mop carried by the jaws will be in an advantageous position relative to the handle when the device is used for cleaning the upper sides and top of a motor vehicle.

A further object of the invention is to provide a combined mop and brush handle in which the clamping jaws of the handle head are operated by a flexible connection extending to the rear end of the handle whereby it is possible to cause the jaws to grasp a brush or a wet mop or cloth by manipulating the jaws from the inner end of the handle without the operator using his hands to apply the same.

lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts herein fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing then claimed.

Describing the invention more in detail, the reference numeral 6 denotes the handle portion of the device which is of hollow or tubular construction as illustrated inFigs. 1 and 3 while cooperating jaws 7 and 8 are carried by one end thereof.

The jaw 7 is shown in detail in Fig. 4 detached from the handle 6 and comprising a relatively long tubular portion 9 that is adapted to receive the handle 6 for rigidly mounting the same. As illustrated in Fig. 4, the aw 7 is formed of a single piece of material embodying the handle engaging portion 9 with the forward end thereof bent substantially at right angles thereto providing a face portion 10 cut away intermediate the ends thereof to provide side bars 11, the outer end 12 of the front face having the engaging aw 13 bent outwardly substantially at right angles thereto and having the A workin ed e thereof s r L teeth 1 a e rated to provide The jaw 8 is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and includes a face section 15 carrying s de bars 16 that are pivoted between the sidebars 11 of the jaw 7 upon pins 17 extendlng through registering openings 18. A gripping aw 19 is carried by the outer end of the front wall 15 of said jaw 8 and is provided upon the edge thereof with teeth 20 cooperating with the teeth 14 upon the jaw 7 in a manner to interlock when moved toward each other. A rearwardly and angularly extending arm 21 is carried by the inner end of the jaw 8 for purposes presently to appear. The pivot pin 17 is surrounded by a coil spring 22, the end 23 of which extends toward the outer end of one of the legs 11 and is secured about the same as shown operating cord 3 29 is adapted to pass, the forward end of the cord in leaving the front roller 28 passes through registering open ings 30 in the jaw sleeve '7 and handle 6 for engagement with the rear end 31 of thej aw arm 21 while the opposite end of the cord 29 passes through a slotted opening 32 in the upper wall of the handle 6 with the terminal end thereof-passed through an opening from the upper side of said lever and prevented from being withdrawn therefrom as by knotting the same as indicated at 33 or otherwise retainingthe same in position.

If it be desiredto replace the mop or cloth with a new one or to insert a brush head between the jaws in'lieu of the mop, the pin 34 is moved in the slot 35 to release the hooked end 36-from the notched ring 38 at which time the lever 27 may be swung upon its pivot 26 to permit'the spring 22 to open the jaws 7 and 8.

WhileI have herein shown and described what are believed to be the preferred ems bodiments of my invention, it is nevertheless to he understood that minor changes may be made in the form, combination and arrange ment of parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as claimed.

What I claim-as'new is A device of the class described comprising a tubularhandle, a pair of jaws secured to one end thereof, one of said jaws including a tubular socket member for receiving said handle with the jaw carried thereby being-immovable relative thereto, the other of said jaws being pivoted to the rigidly mounted jaw, an angularly disposed arm extending from the inner end of said pivoted jaw, the tubular handle and socket member having registeringopenings therein, an operating lever at the opposite end of said handle, flexible connections'between said operating lever and said jaw arm extending through said tubular handle and registering openings.
