To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK \VYSZYNSKI, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor-Sharpening Devices, of which the following is a specification.
Thg primary object of the invention is to provide a sharpening device for razors known in the art as the straight edge type including the handle and the razor blade being supported therein and wherein the sharpening stones of the device are connected together by tensioned bolts so that a constant position is assumed by the sharpening stones when adjusted.
A further object of the invention is to provide a sharpening device for razors including an adjustable guide for the razor blade whereby the surface of the razor blade exposed to the sharpening surface of the stone is controlled.
lVith the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel form,
combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and shown in the acence characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

Describing the invention more in detail, the razor sharpening device is especially designed for sharpening razors of the type shown more clearly in Figs. 1 and 2, the razor includes a handle 13 having the razor blade 14 pivotally secured therein as illustrated.
The sharpening device includes a pair of stones 15 having base portions of like cross sectional area as illustrated in Fig. 4 while the upper edges thereof incline and taper in opposite directions as shown at 16 whereby when said stones are assembled, the cooperating operative faces thereofpresent a straight abrasive surface for the razor blade 14. A pair of connecting plates 17 have bolt receiving openings 18 provided therein and an end lug 19 formed on opposite ends thereof, the said openings 18 adapted to register with openings 20 provided in the stones 15 for the reception of securing bolts 21 secured in position by the adjusting nuts 22, the end lugs engaging the adjacent ends of the stones as shown more clearly in Figs. 3 and 5. The adjacent faces of the stones 15 are provided with enlarged sockets 23 at the bolt receiving openings for the reception of expansion coil springs 24 loosely positioned upon the bolts 21 so that the normal tendency is also present for the stones 15 to be in the position shown in Fig. 5 by the expansion of said springs, the relative positions of the stones being controlled by adjustment of the nuts 22.
,The guide frame for the razor blade 14 is shown more clearly in Figs. 1, 7, and 8 and includes a side plate 25 having a vertical slot 26 therein through which projects the screw 27 carried by one of the stones 15 and upon which screw, is received a fas tening nut. 28 to control the relative height of the plate 25. A channel bar 29 is formed at the upper end of said plate 25 and is provided adjacent one end thercof'with a cut away portion 30 upon its upper side while a slot 31 extends from said cut-away portion to the adjacent end of said channel. the said slot being positioned adjacent one edge thereof to define a stop block The razor blade guide arm 33 shown detached 11o in Fig. 8 has a block 34 formed on one end thereof adapted to be received in the opening 30 with the arm portion 33 of said arm.,
subsequently lowered into the slot 31 in which position inwardly sliding movement the inner end thereof engaging the enlargement 32 in the channel. The outer end of the arm 33 carries a rectangular frame 37 having an opening 38 formed therein adapted for the reception of the shank of the razor blade 14 as shown more clearly in Figs. 1 and 2, the frame 37 extending with in the axial line of said grinding stones so that the razor blade supported therein as illustrated, will be presented to adjacent surfaces of the sharpening stones 15.
While the above description is believed to clearly set forth the construction and operation of the device, it is to be noted that the razor blade positioned in the guide arm frame 37 is reciprocated by the hand of the operator and the guide arm 33 with its head 34: moving the guide arm in the channel 29 of the guide frame forms a guide for the razor 14 while the amount of surface of the blade exposed to the abrading surfaces of the stones is controlled and regulated by the adjustment of the screws 21 and 27, the
former screws controlling the relative positions of the stones while the latter controls the pipe for supporting the razor blade.
What I claim as new is 1. A razorsharpening device comprising a pair of stones, a pair of plates positioned outwardly of said stones at the lower sides thereof, bolts extending through said plates and stones, said stones having opposed sockets on the inner ends through which the bolts extend, expansion coil springs on said bolts between said stones and positioned in said sockets, adjusting nuts on said bolts,
end lugs carried by said plates overlying adjacent ends of said stones, a guide frame including a plate vertically adjustable on the side face of one of said stones, a channel formed'on the upper end of said plate and having an opening adjacent one end thereof upon the upper side of said channel with a slot extending from said opening to the adjacent end of said channel, a guide arm having a head upon one end received in said opening with the arm positioned in said slot and slidably received in said channel. a keeper slidably received on said channel to overlie said opening, a razor blade supporting frame carried by the outwardly extending end of said guide arm and extending in axial alinement with said stones and having an entrance opening therein.
2. A razor sharpening device comprising a pair of stones, resilient connections between said stones normally tending to hold the same spaced apart, a guide frame vertically adjustably mounted on the side face of one of said stones, a guide arm slidably mounted insaid frame, a razor blade engaging supporting frame carried by said arm and means for holding said arm in position in said frame.
3. A razor sharpener .comprising a pair of stones, resilient connections between said stones, a razor blade guide frame adjustably mounted on said stones, said frame including a channel portion having an opening and a communicating slot terminating at the end of said channel,.a guide arm having its inner end received in said opening with the arm portion extending through said slot. means for retaining the arm in said channel and razor supporting means carried by said arm.
4. A razor sharpening device Comprising a pair of stones, adjustable resilient connections between said stones, means carried by said stones to prevent relative longitudinal movement thereof, a razor blade guide adjustably secured to said stones, means carried by said guide extending into longitudinal alinement with said stones and saidmeans beingslidably received in said guide.
