Description
J, A. KING. I
Improvement in Washing-Machines.
N0. 132,470. Patented Oct. 22, 1872.
' I gr.-
NITED STATES JOHN A. KING, or HAMBURG, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Ifatent No. 132,470, dated October 22, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. A. KING, of Hamburg, in the county of Fremont and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wash-Boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a Washboiler, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a longi tudinal vertical section of my wash-boiler.
The washing device consists of a revolving cylinder, constructed in the following manner: Two octagon or polygonal-shaped heads, A A, are connected by a series of curved buckets, B B, which overlap each other, as shown. A part of the cylinder thus formed is cut off and hinged to the main part to form a door to the cylinder. At the lower end of each, or every alternate bucket, is an interior flange or ledge,
'0, forming, with the bucket, a cup or receptacle to carry the water and suds up and let it fall down onto the clothes, and also for turning over the clothes in the cylinder. The journals a of the cylinder are placed in downwardprojecting straps or bars 0 on a rim, G, of suitable size to fit on top of a wash-boiler, E, and the crank D and gear-wheel b are on said The cylinder with its rim forms a distinct and separate attachment from the boiler, and may beused or not, as desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the washing-cylinder A B U and rim G, with gearing for rotating said cylinder, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of August, 1872.
- JOHN A. KING. Witnesses:
G. W. FARMIER, O. H. WYNN.
