The inner end of the screw 31 1s preferably pointed, as at 35, so that the same will engage with the post 4 when the arm 32, is moved into parallel relation with the arm 29.
The thread provided in the shank 28 1s what is known as a quick thread, or in other words, it is athread of a very high object, so that a slight angular movement between the arm 32 and the arm 29 will give the screw 31 considerable movement Within the shank '28; The screw is of such length that when the ar1ns 32 and 29 are in parallel relation it will have such a tight engagement with the post 4.- that-thebracket 35 will be locked in position upon said post.
Having thus described my invention, the operation thereof may now be understood. As will be obvious from the drawings, 'a bottle may be inserted upon each of the plates 1 and 6, and the bracket 5 may be lowered so that the cup 8 receives and en gages the up er end ofthe bottle 3, and that the bracket 9 may be lowered so that the cup 12' thereof engages the upper end of the bottle 14. This operation is, of course, efi'ected when the locking device 24 has been removed from the openings 17 and 18 of the lever 16, and the plate l0vand the lever 16 raised to release the locking device.
It will beunderstood that the person to whom the bottles are to be delivered leaves the device in an unlocked'position so that the delivery man can insert the bottles in position and then manipulate the parts so' that the bottles are held in position, whereupon he inserts the locking member as above described and snaps the lock. The person having the key'can then release the'bottles from their locked condition whenever desired.
A similar operation of the parts in Figs. 3 and 4 will lock and unlock the bottles in the device, the inner end of the screw 31 operating to frictionally engage the post 4 and hold the bracket 27 firmly against slid-- ing movement on the said post.-
While I have shown the construction as adapted to receive and lock two milk bottles, it will be understood that it maybe constructed to similarly operate upon'a greater number, and it will also-be understood that the device as shown by the drawings can be manipulated to lock a single bottle as well as two. This is accomplished by inserting a bottle-in the lower socket and then moving bracket 9 downwardlv until the cup 12 engages the upper surface of the plate 6. whereupon the locking device can be manipulated as above described.
It will accordingly be'iseen that I have provided a device well adapted to attain, among others, the objects above specified, in a simple and eflicient manner by reason of the. fact that the locking device is frictionally engaged by the upright, and bottles of various height can be securely and firmly locked in position.
' As many changes could be made in this construction without departing from the scope of the following claims, it is intended that .all matter contained in the above description or shown in' the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative only and not in a limiting sense.
' Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the class described, in
combination, a base member provided with a socket, a post carried by said base member, a bracket, a slidably mounted member upon said post being provided with a socket, said first mentioned socket and said second mentioned socket being adapted to engage respectively the lower and upper ends of a bottle, a second socket carried by said bracket adapted to support a bottle, a second bracket mounted upon said post having a socket adapted to engage the upper end of a sec- 0nd bottle. and means carried bysaid second bracket adapted frictionally to engage said post to lock said bracket thereto.
2. In a device of the class described. in combination, a base member having a socket,

bracket mounted to slide upon said post, said bracket having a pair of oppositely dis posed sockets, a .second bracket mounted upon said posthaving a downwardly disposed socket andmeans for frictionally locking said second mentioned bracket to said post.
3.' In a device of the class described, in combination, a base member provided with a post, a socket provided upon said base member, a slidable bracket mounted on the post provided with. a socket, each of said sockets being adapted to support a bottle and a bracket slidably mounted upon said post adapted to engage the uppermost bottle provided with means for frictionally locking the same to the post.
4. In a device of the-class described, in combination,, an upright post and a plurality of members mounted upon said post,
