ROBERT C. ANGELL, 0E PRINCE BAY, NEW YORK, AssIGNoR To THE s. s. WHITE DENTAL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, A CoRPoRATIoN OE PENNSYLVANIA.
BRACKET-TABLE.
To all whom timag/ concern.- l
Be it known that I, ROBERT C. ANGELI., a
Specification of Letters Patent.
citizen of the United States, and a residentv class of bracket tables that are designed for the use of professional operators, such as dentists, etc., and is especially directed to the construction of the bracket upon which the table is supported.
The principal objects of my invention are, to provide a table bracket with means to adjustably secure a table top, preferably formed of vitreous or ceramic material, in readily detachable relation therewith. p Y Other objects of my invention are, to provide a table bracket with means for detachably supporting a burner so formed that the gas connection may be effected beneath the table top while the burner 1s conveniently disposed above said table top.
Specifically stated, my invention comprehends a bracket arm rotatably supporting a spider frame, having means on its arms for engaging an undercut boss on the under side of the table top.
My invention also includes all of the various novel features of construction and arrangement hereinafter more definitely specified.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a bracket table constructed in accordance with my invention, showing fragmentary outlines of the table top in dot and dash lines, for convenience of illustration; Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view of said bracket table, taken on the line 2 2 in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a central vertical sectional view, similar to Fig. 2, taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. l; and Fig. 4 is an elevational View of the clamp shown in Fig. 3, as viewed from the right of said gure.
In said figures, the supporting bracket arm 5, which may be suitably mounted in any well known manner, 1s provided at its free end with a bearing 6 in which the tapering shaft or post 7 of the table supporting spider' 9 is rotatably supported.- I
The spider 9 comprises a plurality of radially extended arms 10, 11 and 12, respec- Patented 1390.9, '1919'.`
Application filed Novemberz', 19.15. Serial No. 63,722.
tively havingl raised seats 13, 14 and 15 for the table top 16, which may be of any desired material, but preferably of glass.
The table top 16, as shown in Figs. l2 and 3, may be provided with the upwardly eX- tending peripheral flange 17 to prevent articles laid thereon from being accidentally Y brushed therefrom, and has thedepending annular boss 19 whose outerrwalls conform to the-curved surface of a conical frustum and thereby provide an undercut retention, which, as best ,shown in Fig. 2, is arranged to be engaged by inwardly projecting fingers 2O and 21 formed by projections Yextending upwardly and inwardly 'from the respective arms 10l and 11 and by the linger 22 on the clampv 23, which is arranged to Y the arm 12 and to be adjusted with respect to said boss by the thumb-screw 24.
As best shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the clamp rock upon 23 has its lower end bifurcated. to form prongs 25 and 26, which straddle the single prong27 projecting outwardly from a depending lug 29 on the arm 12, and which are l arranged to rockl upon the surfaces 30`of said lug which extend laterally from the prong 27 in `a plane preferably inclined downwardly toward the axis of rotation of the table.
The clamp 23 is provided with an aperture 32 disposed centrally therein, through which the thumb-screw 24 may loosely extend with its threads in threaded engagement with the threaded socket 33 in the arm 127, and with the spherical surface 35 of the head 36 seated in the spherical seatv 37 surrounding the aperture 32.
In order that the table supporting spider 9 may beinterchangeable with bracket arms having dierent sizes or forms of bearings, the shaft or post 7 may be removably engaged in the hub of the spider by the setscrew 39, as shown in Fig. 2, so that other shafts or posts may be replaced therefor, corresponding with the size or form of the bearing in the bracket arm to which it is desired that the table shall be attached.
i The'arm 11 supports the gas burner 40 independently of the table top 16, and has the socket 41 into which the burner tting 42V Ward beneath the table, having a return bend or bight 47 around the edge of the table and extending radially inward and supporting the burner at a suitable distance over and independently of said table as best shown in Fig. 2.
My invention is advantageous in that While the table is rigidly held Without possibility of accidental displacement from its support, it may by a slight adjustment of the clamp 23 be readilyremoved from said support Without in any Way disturbing the burner or severing the connection with the fluid supply. Y
I do not desire to limit my invention to the precise details of construction and arrangement herein set forth, as it is obvious that various modifications may be made therein Without departing from the essential features of my invention as defined by the appended claims. Y
Having thus described my invention, l claim:
1. A bracket table, comprising` a table top having an undercut depending` boss, a spider frame provided With a pivoted shaft or stud, and having arms supportingsaid table top and carrying proj ecting fingers arranged to engage the undercut surface of said boss, one of said fingers being arranged to rock upon its arm and having means arranged to adjust it into and out of engagement with said undercut surface.
2. A bracket table, comprising a table top, a frame having a plurality of arms, a remove able shaft for said frame arranged to be rotatably supported, a bracket having a beared by said spider frame independently of the I table.
4f. A bracket table, comprising` a table top having an undercut depending boss, a spider frame arranged to be rotatably supported and having projecting fingers overlianging said undercut boss, a clamp adjustable to engage said lingers With said boss, and a burner removably supported'by said spider independentlyV of the table top and disposed l above said table top, and supplied with fuel from kbeneath said table.
5. A bracket table, comprising a table top, a frame beneath said table top, and a burner disposed above the table top and carried by said frame independently of said table top, the connection 'between said burner and frame comprising Va hollow member serving to convey fuel to said burner.
In Witness whereof l have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of November, A. D. 1915.
