JAMES WESLEY CARBIC'O, 0E RUMSEY, ALBERTA, CANADA.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 9, 1919.
Application filed June 20, 1919. Serial No. 305,603.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES W. GARRroo, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Rumsey, Province of Alberta, Ganada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cups; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,.clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which itappertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in cups and the principal object is to provide an unsinkable cup, wherein the handle is always kept above the water line.
With the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter appear; as the de scription continues, the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. V
In the accompanying drawings has been shown a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is neoessarily'made to the precise structural details herein exhibited, but the right is hereby reserved to any changes, alterations or modifications to which recourse may be had that come within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing the efficiency of the same.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cup;
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the cup and vessel, illustrating the former in floating position;
Fig. 3 is a vertical cross sectional view of the cup; and,
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of cup.
Referrin now more particularly to the accompanymg drawings wherein like and corresponding parts are designated by similar reference characters throughout the several views a r The cup embodying the principle of the present invention, comprises, preferably a single sheet of tin rolled in the form of a cylinder 1 and having an open top and closed bottom 2. The metal at one end is bent inwardly at 3 and downwardly at right angles to form the wall 4:, which latter is disposed parallel to a portion of the lnner wall 5 of the cylinder. The downturned portion or wall 4 is soldered at 6, to the bottom 2, thereby forming a hermetically sealed chamber 7 at one end of the cup.
A handle 8 is soldered to the outer surface of the cup, and is disposed at a point centrally of and at right angles to the wall 5 of the chamber 7.
By the construction of the sealed chamber 7 and the location of the handle 8, in the manner stated, the cup will be kept afloat and the handle 8, will be maintained above the Water line as illustrated in Fig. 2.
In the modification illustrated in Fig. 4, I provide a shallow cup 9, constructed according to the principle embodied in the preferred form.
It is obvious that cups or vessels constructed to provide hermetically sealed chambers at one end, will have the function of floating in such manner as to maintain the handle in a vertical plane and to dispose the same above the water line of the receptacle in which it is floating.
Likewise I may stamp the top portion 3 and wall 4 of the chamber 7, separately and solder the same to the wall 5 and bottom 2 of the cup.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A new article of manufacture, comprising a vessel formed with a hermetically sealed chamber and having a handle attached thereto, adapted to be maintained above the water line, when the vessel is floated.
2. A new article of manufacture, comprising a cup formed with a hermetically sealed chamber and a handle secured to said cup and being positioned at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the said chamber.
3. A new article of manufacture, a cup formed with a cylindrical body portion and bottom, a partition member comprising a top portion and wall, said top portion being soldered to the inner wall of the cup and the said portion wall soldered to the bottom of the on and a handle disposed on the outer sur ace of the cup body and adapted
