OTIS E. BUREL, 0F CARTI-IAGE, MISSOURI.
1VIUSIG-LEAF TURNER.
' Application filed September To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Orrs E. BUREL, a cit1- zen of the United States, residing at Oarthage, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners, of which the following is aspecification.
The invention relates to a music leaf turner, and more particularly to the class of portable music leaf turners.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a music leaf turner of this character wherein a plurality of leaves can be turned in successive order without requiring the fingering thereof by the operator, the music leaf turner being of novel form and can be conveniently placed upon a piano, organ, or music support.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a music leaf turner of this character wherein the sheets of music will be turned in either direction, the turning of the sheets being effected through a series of arms controlled by levers which can be actuated by the hand and are in convenient reach of the operator.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a music leaf turner which is simple in construction, reliable and efiicient in operation, permitting the reverse turning of the sheets at will, strong, durable, possessing few parts, thereby avoiding the possibility of the same gettingout of order during continued use, and also one which is inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a music leaf turner constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4: is a sectional view on the line 44 of Fig. 1. V
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the hand operating levers.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the leaf turning arms.

responding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the music leaf turner comprises a bar 10, preferably made from wood, and is of the desired length so that the cover sheets of music can be conveniently held thereby, the bar 10 being detachably mounted upon the front of a piano, organ, or music rack of a stand, or the like, in any suitable manner, and has on its front face at opposite sides thereof spring-held clips 11 in which are engaged the cover sheets of the music for the fastening of the same in position relative to the bar or rail. At a medial point of the bar is a slot 12 which is vertically disposed and into which projects a gear frame or housing 13 which is located at the rear side of the bar or rail and is fixed thereto in any suitable manner, in which are journaled the companion pairs of upper and lower meshing gears 14: and 15, respectively, the latter of which have fixed thereto the music leaf turning arms 16 which are located forwardly of the bar 10 and are adapted to swing from right to left or vice versa on actuating the gears in a manner presently described.
Fixed near one end of a ledge strip 22 are the respective pairs of hand operated levers 17 and 18 which are formed with intermediate pivot ears 19 through which are passed pivots 20, the same being fastened in a bearing block 21 secured to the ledge strip 22 fastened to the bar or rail, and pivotally connected to the levers 17 are operating rods 23 which are also pivoted to links '2 which are eccentrically pivoted at 25 to the respective gears 14:, the links being designed to work through guide eyes 26 formed in the frame 18, while pivoted to the levers 18 are reversing links 27, the same being also pivoted to the operating rods 23 so that these levers 18 when actuated will reverse the movement of the music leaf turning arms 16 with respect to the direction of movement thereof when actuated by the levers 17 so that the sheets of music can be turned either from right to left or vice versa, as will be clearly apparent.
Connected to the inner ends of the arms 16 are hanger wires 28, the outer ends of which are trained through perforated cars 29 on the said arms, and have outer terminal knots 30 to prevent the said outer ends of the wires from being pulled through the cars 29, and upon these wires may be mounted any suitable form of clips for the fastening of the sheets of music to be turned thereto.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and manner of operation of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted,
What is claimed is:
In a music leaf turner, the combination with a music supporting bar rovided in its upper edge with a vertica 1y disposed slot, a housing having a closed slotted end wall disposed in the slot of said bar, companion gears journaled in said housing, music leaf turning arms connected with a pair of the ears to be turned thereby, a rail, a plurality of levers supported by the rail, a plurality of operating rods, and link connections working in the slot of the OTIS E. BURE'L.
