Improvement in Machines for Upsettng Tires.`
Patented 0ct.15,1872.`
A ch e w u ammi X111! end-QT. Wn e s S Q S UNITED STATES PATENT CDEEIoEo ANDREW YOUNT, OF KOKOMO, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT vINv MACHINES FOR UPSETTING TIRES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,346, dated October l5, 1872.
. of Indiana, have invented an Improved Machine for Setting Tires; and do hereby declare that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawing hereinafter referred to, forms afull and exact specification of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature of my said improvement, by which my invention may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent.
My invention relates to tire setting machines; and the nature thereof consists in certain modifications and improvements in the details of the constructionof the same, hereinafter described and shown.
In the accompanying plate of drawing, which illustrates my invention and forms a `part of the specification thereof- Figure l is a plan view of the top of the machine; Fig.- 2 is a plan of the bottom of the machine 5 and Fig.- 3 is an end view.
The construction and operation of my inven tion are described as follows: K
The upper jaw A and lower jaw B are pivoted together by a bolt at a, in such a manner that when the jaws are moved the back pieces C C describe the arcs of circles. The said jaws are\held together by the headed bolt D, which moves in the slot E. rEhe back pieces C C' are made to approach or recede from each other by means of the cam-lever F and connecting-rod H. Pivoted to the pressure-block I is a cam, which works against the post K, and is operated by the handle L in such a manner that the said pressure-block may be made to press the tire against the back pieces C C and prevent kinking. The tire is prevented from slipping by means of the holders L1 L2, the teeth l Z of which bite the same and hold it in position.
Having described the construction and operation of my invention, I will state what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent in the following clause-that is to say:
The jaws A B pivoted at the lower ends, provided with flanges C C with teeth c e, the slotted overlapping plate E, the connectingrod H, eccentric lever F, pressure-block I K L, and biting-levers L1 L2, all constructed and combined as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have subscribed my name hereto this 11th day of December, 1871.
ANDREW YOUN'I.
