Description

L. H. ROGERS.
Improvement in Carbonized Paper.
No. 132,324.. Patented Oct. 15,1872.
Inventor.
UNITED STATES.
LEBBEUS H. ROGERS, on NEW YORK, n. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARBONIZED PAPER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.- 132324, dated October 15, 1872.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEBBEUS H. ROGERS, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Oarbonized Paper, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to the manufacture of carbonized paper for use in manifold writing or printing; and my object is to produce such paper in such a way that it can be manipulated without. soiling the fingers. To accomplish this I, produce my carbon paper in sheets of any desired size and shape, with one or more edges or margins bare and clean so as to adlnitof handling the paper without soiling the fingers.
The accompanying drawing represents a sheet of carbon paper made according to my invention.
The central and main portion A of the paper is prepared in the usual manner, with suitable carbon or colored material, adapting it to act by transfer in the customary process of manifold writing or printing. B represents an edge or margin loft white and clean to admit of handling the sheet without soiling the fingers. This unsoiled margin may be extended on one or more edges of the sheet, if desired, but I prefer to have it on one side only, as this answers every necessary purpose, while leaving other parts of the sheet available for use. It will be observed that a sheet made with a single clean margin, as described, is as available as one made black all over in the usual way. For convenience in manipulation it is desirable to have one edge of the carbon sheet project beyond that on which the writing and printing is to be produced. I reserve the right to produce my improved carbon sheets by dipping one or more edges of the blackened paper in an alkaline solution for the purpose of removing the black material from such edge or edges.
Claim.
I claim as a new article of manufacture- Carbon paper, made in sheets, with one or more clean edges or margins for the purpose of handling it, substantially as set forth.
