To all whom it may concern: v
Beit known that I, WILLIAM R. HADDooK, a citizen of the United States, South Bend, in the county of Pacific, and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Transfer-Sheets, of which the `following is a specification.
This invention relates to transfer sheets such as are commonly used on typewriting machines for obtaining and producing car- .bon copies.
The object of the invention is to produce a transfer sheet having a tear ofi' line` designatedythereon parallel to one of the edges of the sheet and located at a distance from said edge approximately equal to one-half of .the distance between the lines of typewritthe invention is to transfer sheet and the ribbon Sheet and fOllow sheet. This enables unused lines orportions of the carbon sheet to be brought into position to'transfer the impressions to the follow sheet, practically doubling the life of the carbon sheet.
A. further object of the invention is to provide a' transfer sheet having lines of perforations extending transversely thereof and so arranged as to accomplish the result above set forth when used either in connection with legal-ca paper or the letter-head size. With the a ove and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts `herein fully described, ilustrated and claimed.

Referring to the drawings A designates a ribbon sheet of paper, B the transfer sheet,
residing at and C a follow sheet, the'transfer sheet being as usual interposed between the ribbon sheet and the follow surface toward the follow sheet and lits unprepared surface toward the ribbon sheet. The transfer sheet is particularly designed with reference to its use in combination with a ribbon sheet havin a side marginal row of numerals or other designatin characters indicated at D so that the lines of typewriting may register with said numerals or characters, but it will of course be understood that the use of the transfer sheet is not limited to paper provided with line-designating characters.
The transfer sheet B is provided with a line of erforations a extending parallel to one of ghe shorter edges of the sheet and it may also be provided kwith another row of (perforations b extending parallel to the other shorter edge of the paper. The distance between each row of perforations a or b and the adjacent edge of the sheet is substantially one-half the distance between the lines of typewriting so that when the marginal strip ofthe transfer sheet is removed by tearing or otherwise, and the transfer sheet is llned up with the corresponding edges of the ribbon and follow sheets, the worn or used portions of the transfer sheet will be moved out of line with the ordinary lines of typewriting and the unused portions of the transfer sheet will be moved lnto the lines of writing thereby giving as clear an impression as would be given by a new transfer sheet. This practically doubles the life of a sheet of transfer paper.
The transfer sheet B may, if desired, be also adapted for use in combination with ribbon and follow sheets of a smaller size than le al-cap as for example, sheets of letter-hea size. In such case the transfer sheet will be provided with another row of perforations c so that the 'smaller portion of the sheet at one side of the line of perforations e may be torn olf or otherwise removed leaving the transfer sheet of the same size as the ribbon sheetl and follow sheets. In
addition to the line of perforations e another line of perforations al is provided, the per- .forations d extending along a line parallel to the rou7 of perforations c and being located a distance from the line c equal to apsheet with its prepared proximately one-half the distance between previously described. rllhe smaller sheet ending at the line o is lined u with the corresponding marginal edges o the ribbon sheet and follow sheet and after the translll ter sheet has become too far worn for :turther use, the strip between the lines of periorations o and d is removed so that by lining up the transfer sheet of reduced size with the ribbon sheet and follow sheet, the unused portions of the transfer sheet will register with the lines of typewriting, with the same result as hereinabove described.
l. As an article of manufacture, a transfer sheet having a tear-od' line of perforations extending parallel to one oit' the edges thereof and located at a distance from said edge approximately equal to one-half the distance between the normal lines of impressions.,
2,. A transiter sheet for use in typewriting neonato machines, having a. line designated thereon parallel to one of the edges thereof and located at a distance from said edge approximately equal to one-half of the distance between the lines of typewriting, for the purpose specified.
3. A transfer sheet for use in connection with typewriting machines, having a plurality of rows of perforations all extending parallel to one of the edges of the sheet and forming a plurality of tear-od' portions, enabling the sheet to be reduced in size from one standard size of paper to another and to be additionally reduced in size to ed'ect a diderent registration between the transfer sheet ,and the ribbon sheet and follow sheet, substantially as and for the purpose described ln testimony whereof l ailix my signature.
