C. W. SMITH.
DIAMOND SHAPED BOX. APPLICATION mm mm 1. 1918.
1,322,637., Patented Nov. 25, 1919.
UNITED FSTA CHARLES WM. SMITH, OF WOODLAWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
DIAMOND-SHAPED 302.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Nov. 25, 1919.
Application filed June 1, 1918. Serial No. 237,756.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES WILLIAlv SMITH, a citizen of the United States, resid ing at Woodlawn, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Diamond- Shaped Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to diamond shaped boxes and particularly to the means for locking and folding the ends thereof and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a box of simple and durable structure the same consisting of a blank foldable so that the box is rhomb-shaped or diamond shaped in transverse section. Another object of the invention is to provide means for effectually closing and sealing the end portions of the box.
1 With these objects in view the invention consists in providing the blank with sections adapted to form the sides of the box and having tongues adapted to close the ends thereof, and suitable flanges for binding the tongues and for holding the sides of the box in position.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the box is formed.
The other figures are detailed views of the features of the invention.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing the blank is cut from a single sheet of material as for instance heavy paper and includes sections 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 the said sections being defined with relation to each other by means of scorings or folds in a usual manner. 7
The section 1 is provided at one end with a triangular tongue 6 and at its opposite end with a quadrilateral tongue 10. The section 2 is provided at one end only with a rhomb shaped tongue 7 having at its outer edge, a lip 9. The section 3 is provided at one end with a quadrilateral tongue 8 and at its other end With a triangular tongue 11. The
V'Vhen the blank is folded to form the box the sections 1, 2, 3, and 4 are disposed at angles With relation to each other and the section 5 is attached to the section 1 by using an adhesive or other means. The tongues 6 and 8 are folded in at one end of the box and the tongues 10 and 11 are folded in at the other end of the boxthen the tongue 7 is folded over the tongues 6 and 8 and the tongue 12 is folded over the tongues 10 and 11 whereby the body of the box of which the sections 1, 2, 3, and 4 are the sides, will assume the shape of a rhomb in transverse section. The lips 9 and 13 are then inserted between the adjacent sides of I the box and the edges of the adjacent tongues and consequently the ends of the box are closed and sealed.
From the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that a diamond shaped box of simple and durable structure is provided and that the box may be easily and quickly formed by folding or bending the blank as hereinbefore described. Y
Having described the invention what is claimed is:
A blank for a box comprislng four connected sections, two of the sectlons having at one end triangular shaped tongues and at CHARLES l/VM. SMITH.
