Be it known that I, LEWIS N. RosEciiANs, a citizen of the United States, residingv at vAmerican Falls, in the county of Power and State of Idaho, have invented certaink new and useful lmprovernents 1n Wrenches, of
`which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to wrenches removing nutsrwfromv bolts; land it consists 1n the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
ln the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view, partly in section, of a wrench constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is also a side view, but shows the wrench turned onequarter around from the position shown in Fig. 1.
A frame 2 is provided and has a push bar or plate 3 at one end which is adapted to be pressed by the body of the operator. A longitudinal bearing A is provided at the other end of the frame, and 5 is a long tubular sleeve which is journaled in the bearing A. The sleeve has a bearing 6 on its Vfree end portion which is arranged crosswise of its axis, and 7 is a beveled toothed wheel the which is journaled in the cross A socket 9 for engaging with the nuts is connected to the hub 8, and this socket preferably has a rectangular shank 10 which is inserted in a similar hole in the wheel hub. Sockets of dierent sizeV are provided to suit different nuts, and they all 10 of the same size so that they can all be slid into engagement with the hole in the wheel hub 8.
The tubular sleeve 5 is revolved in the bearing l so that the socket 9 may be arranged to project from the frame 2 in any desired direction.
A shaft 12 is journaled in the tubular sleeve 5, and has a beveled toothed wheel 14; secured on one end portion of it, which gears into the toothed wheel 7. A similar beveled toothed wheel 15 is secured on the other end portion of the shaft A12, and is arranged in an opening 16 in the frame 2.
A driving shaft 18 is journaled in bearings 19 on the frame, and is arranged crjosswise of the shaft 12. rllwo beveled toothed wheels 20 and 21 are secured on the end portions of a hub or sleeve 24, which is slidable on the driving shaft, but which revolves with it. A wrench constructed according to this invention can be used on nuts in various parts of machinery which are not freely accessible to. wrenches as ordinarily constructed.
What l claim is:
1. ln a wrench, a frame havinga longitudinal bearing, a tubular sleeve journaled in the said bearing, a revoluble nut socket carried by the said sleeve, a shaft journaled in the said sleeve, means for connecting the said shaft with the Vnut socket, a driving shaft journaler. in the frame and arranged crosswise of the said shaft, and driving devices connecting the two saidshafts. i
