To all whom t may concern.'

Be it known that I, NrcHoLAs SCHOLTES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mobile, in the county of Mobile and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tool-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a tool box, and the object is to provide an article ofthe 'type indicated which shall be especially adapted for carrying tools and supplies of various kinds and shall include a receptacle proper with certain novel means for closing the one side and the upper portion of the receptacle.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangements of elements hereinafter described and claimed.

The tool box includes a bottom member 10, a rear wall 12, an upper stationary wall 13, and certain means described below for closing theJ front portion of the box and a portion of the top thereof. A drawer or drawers 15 may be located in the position shown, one guide or track member therefor being designated 16, and the opposite guide being shown at 17. A catch or locking device 18 for the drawer is located on the inner side of one of the end members 20 and serves to prevent the opening of the drawer until the box itself has been opened. The drawer is provided with a suitable pull 22. An upper drawer 5 is located below the stationary portion of the cover designated 13, this drawer being movable toward the main opening in the box and being retained in position by the cover referred to below when Specification of Letters Patent.

the latter is secured. A slide for this drawer 5 is provided at each end of the box, these slides being designated 7 and 8.

The front of the tool box is designated 25 and guides 26 are located at the ends of the front sections and receive the upper removablesection 27 when the latter has been unlocked and detached. A hasp is shown at 28 and engages a staple 29, the hasp being secured by the usual padlock 30. The upper member 13 may be mortised into the end members 2() as shown at 31.

A longitudinally extending handle 33 is connected with the upwardly projecting portions of the end members, and a strap 35 is connected at its ends with the end sections 2O as shown at 36. Loops or clips for the straps may be provided where needed, certain of these being shown at 37. are formed in one of the end members in order that a saw or saws of greater length than the box may readily be carried. Slots 39 permit of the insertion of the cover in a horizontal position in order that it may serve as a shelf,

What is claimed is:

In a device of the class described, a main receptacle including front and rear walls, a bottom, an upper section covering a portion of the top and a detachable section covering the remainder of the top, guides carried by the front section near the end portions of the receptacle and adapted to receive the detached cover when removed, a drawer and means for supporting the latter in the receptacle, said drawer being movable toward the opening closed by the detachable cover and retained in position by the cover when the latter is in position for closing the receptacle.
