PAINTERS TORCH. APPLICATION FiLED FEB.I71 1919.

WILFRID G. CHAUSSE, 013 DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
IPAINTERS TORCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 18, 1919.
Application filed February 17, 1919. Serial No. 277,589.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILFRID G. CHAUssn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Painters Torches, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention aims to furnish a painters or glaziers torch with a novel flame bafiiing attachment which will disseminate the flame, reduce it to a multiplicity of small jets and permit of the torch being used in the usual manner without danger of a surface or woodwork being unduly burned dur ing the removal of paint, varnish or other matter.
My invention further aims to provide a simple, durable and inexpensive burner head that is applicable to various types of torches or paint removing burners, and the mechanical construction entering into the device will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherehr- Figure 1 is a side elevation of conventional form of painters torch having the burner thereof provided with a device in accordance with my invention, and
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a perforated head adapted to form part of the device.
In the drawing, the reference numeral 1 denotes a conventional form of torch having a burner 2 and detachably mounted 011 the outer end of the burner by a set screw 3 or other fastening means is a semi-spherical casing 4 having a perforated head 5. The head 5 may be suitably connected to the front edges of the casing 4 and said head has a central opening 6 and a series of (ircumferentially disposed openings 7.
Connected to the head 5 by a screw 8 or other fastening means extending through the opening 6 is the stem 9 of a conical shaped deflector 10, said conical shaped deflector being supported in the axis of the burner 2 and the casing 4 with its apex confronting the open end of the burner 2 so as to spread a flame emitted thereby. The inclined walls of the deflector 10 will direct the flame outwardly against the perforated head 5 and the flame will enter the openings The head 11 is circular in elevation and has rounded edges 13 which will positively prevent flame jets from creeping over the edges of the head 11 and attacking a surface in proximity to said head. The flames emitted by the openings 7 of the head 5 are of sufficient intensity to heat the head 11 so that when said head is held on or contiguous to a surface the finish of said surface can be heated and removed.
It is thought that the utility of my device will be apparent without further description, and While in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the same, it is to be understood that the structural elements are susceptible to such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is;
1. The combination of a burner, a casing carried thereby, a perforated head carried by said casing, a flame deflector centrally supported by said perforated head within said casing, and an imperforate head supported in front of the perforated head and in spaced parallel relation thereto.
2. The combination of a burner, a casing carried thereby, a perforated head carried by said casing, a flame deflector centrally supported by said perforated head within said casing, and an imperforate head supported in spaced relation to said perforated head and by the same fastening means em ployed for holding the deflector.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILFRID G. CHAUSSE.
