Pivoted concentrically with the star wheel 30 is a bell crank lever 32 having a pawl 33 pivoted on its shorter arm 34. he pawl 33 is adapted to successively engage the teeth of the ratchet wheel "31, as the lever is vibrated. A spring 35 on the bell crank lever cooperates with the pawl to resiliently hold it engaged with the teeth of the ratchet wheel. The spring 51 also actuates the ham mer to discharge the gun. The hammer 49 has a depending arm 52 in the path of the arms of the star. wheel 30. When the star wheel 30fis rotated, these arms successively engage the arm 52 and retract the hammer to the osition shown in Fig. 2. A slight forwar movement ofthe arms 30 from the position shown in said figure releases the hammer whiohis moved to discharge the 1gun by the spring 51. Depending from the ammer 49 adjacent its endis a beveled or wedge shaped lug or projection 53 adapted to cooperate with a slide 54 which carries the firing pin 55. By references to Figs. 3 and 6 it will be noted that the slide 54 is beveled to coiiperate with. the lug 53 and a spring 55 surrounds the firing pin and servesto hold the same in retracted position, asshown in Fig. 6. The slide 54 has a bearing in acnt out portion 56 in the upper side of the bearing plate 9.
Means are provided for locking the hammer in the position shown in Fig. 1, while the un is out of use. This means com rises a lo king pin 57 slidably mounted in a. ousing 58 secured to the supporting plate 1. A spring 59 serves to pro ect the bolt to locking position. The end of the bolt 57 is provided with an eye to which a flexible cord 60 is secured. and which passes over a plurality of roller guide bearings 61, and at its outer end is provided with a wrist band 62 which may be secured to the arm of the o erator. If desired, means may be provlded such as shown at 63 for adjusting the lengths of the cords 41 and 60. This means comprises screws 64 secured to the cords and connected with threaded openings at the ends of a coupling member 65.
It will be noted that the cover 26 which houses the parts is comparatively shallow and beveled at its outer edges, making the instrument, very compact.
The operation of the device is as follows: The cylinder 12 having its chambers 13 filled with loaded cartridges, together with the bearin bolt 15, isinserted, the head 16 of the be t entering the opening 10' in the path 9. The chambers of the. cylinders may be counterbored as indicated in the drawings, so that the cartridges may lie flush with the inner surface of t e cylinder. The pin 21 is then inserted to lock the bolt 15 and cylinder to the bearing plate 9. The cover 26 is now moved to closed position, the pin 24 operating to properly aline the barrel with that chamber of the cylinder which is in firing position. In order to prevent a too free rotation of the cylinder, a spring 66 may be secured to the cover 26 in position to frictionally engage the cylinder. The operator now moves the arm to which the hand 62 is attached to withdraw the bolt 57 from looking position. With the locking member 48 in released position, the operator now moves his arm to pull the cord 41, to swing the lever 32 against the tension of its spring from engagement with the stop 39, to engagement with the stop 40 and the ratchet and star wheels forward one tooth. During this movement, the star wheel first engages and rotates the cylinder forwardly, and after a slight movement of the cylinder, engages the projection 52 of the hammer, raising the same as the cylinder is moved fOIWVtlI'd. Simultaneously with the. .alinement of the'succeedin chamber with the barrel and firing in, the star wheel, passes the lug 52 and t a spring 51 swings the hammer into engagementwith the slide 54, and the alined cartridge is discharged. The bands @5 and 62 may be attached to the arms above the elbows, as only a slight movement of the cords is required to operate the un, thus leaving the forearms and hands Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. 3. In an automatic gun, the combination of a support, a cartridge cylinder revolubly supported thereon,.a firin hammer pivoted to said support, a revolu le star wheel for rotating said cylinder and retracting said hammer, and pawl and ratchet devices for rotating said star wheel.

In an automatic gun, the combination of a support, a cartridge cylinder revolublv supported thereon, a firing hauuner pivoted to said support, a revoluble star wheel for rotating said c linder and retractin said hammer, a rate at on said star whedl, and a pawl ooiiperating with said ratchet for imparting a step by step movement to said star wheel.

In an automatic the combination of a support, a cartri ge cylinder thereon revoluble about an axis substantially perpendicular thereto, a firing hammer pivoted to said' support for movement substantially parallel thereto, means for revolving said cylinder and simultaneously retracting said hammer. and means for locking said hammer against actuation.

In an automatic gun, the combination of a supporting plate, a bearing plate mounted thereon, a revoluble cylinder detachably mounted on said bearin plate. a slide having a beveled surface an a firing pin mounted in a recess in said bearing plate, a hammer pivoted to said supporting platq and having a beveled projection for engaging the beveled surface on said slide for actuating the slide, and meansfor actuating said hammer and rotating the cylinder.
7., In an automatic'gun, the combination of a supporting plate, means for securing said )late to the body ofthe operator, a carrier or a plurality of cartridges supported on said plate, a firin pin, a hammer pivoted to said plate and a apted to cooperate with said firing pin, and means adapted to be secured to the arm of the operator for moving said carrier to successively move the cartrid es into alinement with said firing pin an simultaneously actuate the hammer.
8. In an automatic gun, the combination of a supporting plate, means for"securing said plate to the body of the operator, at carrier for a plurality of cartridges supported on said plate, a, firing pin, a star wheel for moving said carrier to move the cartridges successively into alinement with said firin pin and actuate the firing pin, and pawl an ratchet devices for actuating the star wheel.

In an automatic gun, the combination of a supporting plate, means for securing said plate to the body of the operator, a carrier for a plurality of cartridges supported on said plate, a firing pin, a cover plate on said supporting plate, a dischar e barrel on said cover plate in alinement wit said firing pin, and means for moving said carrier to successively bring a cartridge into alincment with said barrel.

In an automatic gun, the combination of a supporting plate, means for securing said plate to the body of the operator, a cyl inder having a plurality of chambers revolubly mounted on said plate, a firing pin in alincment with one of the chambers of said cylinder, a cover plate hinged to said supporting plate, a discharge barrel on said cover plate. means for alining said barrel with that chamber of the cylinder in alincment with the firing pin, and means for rotating the cylinder to successively bring its chambers into alinement with the firing 11. In an automatic gun, the combination of a support adapted to be secured to the body of the operator, a cartridge container revolubly mounted on said support with an axis substantially normal to the latter, container revolving means on said support, a hammer on said support, said revolving means'and hammer being disposed parallel with said support for movement in the plane of the latter, and actuatirn: means for said revolving means and hammer.

In an automatic gun. the combinatitm of a support adapted to be secured to the. body of the operator, a bearing on said support, a cartridge container reroluble on said bearing about an axis normal to said sup port, and actuating means on said support arranged for movement. parallel with the, latter for revolving said container and discharging said cartridges.
13. In an automatic gun, the combination of a support adapted to be, secured to the body of the operator. a second support parallel with the first. and spaced therefrom. a
revoluble cartridge carrier between said supports, carrier revolving means and tiring means between said supports and movable parallel with the latter, and actuating means under control of the operator for said revolving: means and firing means.

In an automatic gun, the combination of a support adapted to be secured to the body of the operator, a cartridge container revolubly mounted on said support about an axis substantially normal to the latter, a star wheel revoluble in the plane of said sup port for revolving said container. a hammer movable in the plane of the support for firing said cartridges, and actuating means under control of the operator for revolving said star wheel and moving said hammer.
15. In an automatic gun, the combination of a support adapted to be secured to the bod) of the operator, a cartridge container revolubly mounted on said support about an axis substantially normal to the latter. a star wheel rerolulile in the plane of said support for revolving said container. a hammer movable in the plane of the support for firing said cartridges, and actuating means under control of the operator comprising a pawl and ratchet for revolving said star wheel and moving said hammer,
