THOMAS W. WATERS, 015 DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. at, 1919.
Application filed October 28, 1918. Serial No. 260,053.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. WATERS, a citizen of the United States, residin at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and S tate of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in clamps of that nature in which the jaw is moved by an eccentric and the principal object of the invention is to provide rollers upon which the eccentric works. 7
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim. 7
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a clamp supplied with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
As shown in these views the clamp parts are carried by a U shaped member 1, which at its ends is provided with extensions 2. The eccentric 3 is pivoted between said extensions by the pin 4. Said eccentric is provided with the handle part 5 and on one face of said eccentric is provided a flange 6 which is located around the edge thereof.
7 indicates the sliding bolt or jaw of the clamp which engages an opening 8 formed between the ends of the member 1. 9 indicates a circular casing which is connected with the bolt by the screw 10 and said screw Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, I
engages a slot 11 formed in the member 1 so that the bolt and casing may have sliding movement in said member. A pair of rollers 12 is journaled in said casing and a part of said casing is cut away as at 13 to receive a portion of the eccentric. The eccentric will project far enough into said casing to engage with said rollers and I keep said rollers in contact with the eccentric by means of a pin 14 carried by a projecting part 15 ofthe casing, said pin engaging the flange 6 on the eccentric.
It will thus be seen that when the eccentric pressure and will not slip or fly back, as is' the case of the tools now used. The rollers eliminate friction so that the work is much easier for the workman.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make chances in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall withthe scope of the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
A clamp of the class described comprising a U shape member, an eccentric pivoted in said member and having a flange thereon, a casing slidingly mounted in said member and having a cut away portion, bearing rollers in said casing engaging with the said eccentric, a bolt connected with said casing, and a pin on said casing engaging with the flange on the eccentric.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
THOMAS w. WATERS.
Washington, D. G.
