FACING-STRIP FOB- CONCRETE FENOEPOSTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 28, 1919.
Application filed September 19, 1918. Serial No. 254,705.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VERGIL M. Lu'rz, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Paris, in the county of Ghampaign and State of-Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Facing-Strlps for Concrete Fenceposts, of which the follow ing is a specification.
This invention relates to facing strips and'has particular reference to that class of facing strips adapted to be used in connection with concrete fence posts for securing strands of wire thereto.
An important object of the invention is to provide in a device of the above mentioned character a means whereby the face plate as a whole may be adequately secured or anchored to a concrete fence post without the use of nails, screws, bolts or the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a facing strip which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings, forming a part of this specification and wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,-
Figure 1 is a face view of a concrete post having the device embodying my invention anchored or secured thereto,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device embodying my invention, and,
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings. wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred form of my invention, the numeral 5 indicates a concrete fence post with which the device embodying my invention is adapted to be used, the device embodying my invention being indicated as a whole by the numeral 6, which device comprises a face plate 7 substantially equal in length to that portion of the post 5 which extends above the surface of the ground as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
The face plate 7 is provided with a, plurality of tongues 8 which are struck from the face plate 7. These tongues are adapted to support a plurality of strands of wire 9, a portion of these wires being confined between the face plate 7 and the inner face of the tongues 8 as clearly shown in Fig. 1. In order'to prevent the strands of wire 9 from becoming dislodged from their respective positions when supported in the manner shown in Fig. 1, the upper ends of the tongues 8 subsequent to the placing of the wires 9 in position may be bent inwardly to insure a perfect locking of the several wires firmly in position with respect to the face plate 7. As a means for securing or anchoring the face plate 7. in position upon the post 5 there is provided a lurality of feet 10 which are disposed su stantially perpendicular to the face plate 7, which feet are embedded within the post 5 and are at their ends bent substantially parallel to the face plate 7 as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
It is apparent, if the device is placed in position when the post 5 is being molded, that the same upon hardening of the concrete from which the post is formed will be securely anchored or held in a desired position with respect to the post. It is further apparent that any desired number of feet 10 other than the number which I have shown may be employed as an anchoring means and that these feet therefore need not necessarily be arranged at the ends of the face plate 7 but on the other hand may be disposed intermediate the ends if so desired.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
.Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
A facing strip for concrete fence posts comprising an elongated flat rectangularly shaped face-plate having a plurality of feet, the bent portions of said feet lying in a tongues struck therefrom, a plurality of feet parallel plane with respect to said facecarried by said plate at its ends, said feet plate, said feet and angular bent portions 10 lying in parallel planes perpendicularly being adapted for anchorage Within the 5 and longitudinally arranged with respect to concrete forming a post.
the face-plate and bent at their ends to a perpendicular position With respect to said VEBGIL MILO LUTZ.
