members on their pivots in the other direction. The lower edges of the reduced portions of the body members are rounded as at 16 so that the will not jam against the 5 sides of the mortised portions of the central ed ends which may be screwed'in the bottom of the side sections 4: and 5 to support the same when the top is in unfolded posi- 's tion as-shown in Fig. 5. l/Vhen in this polsition the surface area of the table is approximately three times the surface area of the table when the top is folded up as is obvious' '18 indicates a horizontal strip which is fastened to the under side of the central section 3 of the top of the table. Secured to the said strip 18 is the holder 19 having spring ends which 'areadapted to engage and hold the removable legs 17 when they are not in use (see Figs. 8'and 4:). When'the top of the table is infolded position I prefer to, conceal "the same from view with a removable cover 20 having depending flanges 21. of a width suflicient to conceal not only the folded top but also the removable legswhich are carried by the holder 19 as has been explained. I preferably provide theinner sides of the flanges 21 with springs 22 which'engage' the top of the table when the cover is placed thereon 40 and which exert a sufficient pressure thereagainst'to cause the cover to remain firmly in position. g I
It will be obvious from the foregoing description that my improved table is particularly useful in'small apartments or in restaurants because of the ease with which it may be converted from a table having a top of small surface area into a table having a top of comparatively large surface area. In the specific form oftable shown and described, the-surface area of the top of the enlarged or converted table is approximately three times the surface area of the original table. In small apartments where one room serves both as a living'room and a dining room the table may be used as a drawing room table when the top is folded up and the cover placed thereon, the cover Copies'of this-patent may be obtained for then becoming the top of the table. The folded up top is thus concealed from view by the depending flanges of the cover so that the table then has all the appearances of a drawing room table and presents a pleasing appearance. The conversion of the table into a dining room table having a top of considerably larger surface area is easily effected by the simple removal of the cover,
the unfolding of the top and the attaching of the removable legs to the side sections of the top. As is manifest, the enlarged table may be re-converted into its former size and appearance after it has been used as a clining room table. a
In restaurants also. the desirability of usin my improved table can be appreciated as the table may be used with the topin folded position for a small number of diners or it may be converted into a larger size table when a larger number of diners desire to'sit at the same table. The cover may be dispensed with entirely if so desired and the table with the top in folded position covered with an ordinary table cloth to conceal the folded sections of the top and the removable legs. 1
What'I' claim asmy invention is:
1. A table having a top with permanent J I legs joined thereto, said top comprising a plurality of sections joined together and adapted to be folded one upon the other, removable legs adapted to be secured to sections of said top, means beneath said top for holding said removable legs and "a removable cover fitting'on said top when in folded position, said cover being provided with de pending flanges adapted to hide said top from view.
2. A table having a top with legs joined thereto, said top comprising a plurality of sections joined together and adapted to be folded one upon the other, a removable cover fitting on'said top when in folded position,
said cover being provided with depending five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
