R. MULLER.
SHAVING BRUSH ATTACHMENT FOR COLLAPSIBLE TUBES. APPLICATTON FILED APR.30,1918.
T 8 T 9&69. Patented on. 21, 1919.
RUDOLF MULLER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
SHAVING-IBRUSH ATTACHMENT FOR COLLAIE'SIBLE TUBES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented @ct. 2t, 1919,.
Application filed April 39, 1918. Serial Ito-231,964.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RUDoLF MULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shaving-Brush Attaclr ments for Collapsible Tubes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in shaving brush attachments for collapsible shaving cream tubes, wherein a tubular extension operates in conjunction with a valve for controlling the passage of shaving cream from a collapsible tube into the shaving brush; and the objects of my invention are- First, to provide an improved device of the character described attachable to a collapsible shaving cream tube and adapted to receive cream from said tube;
Second, to provide an improved shaving brush which may be readily and easily attached and detached from collapsible shaving cream tubes;
Third, to provide, in a device of the character described, improved means for preventing the passage of shaving cream when inoperative Fourth, to provide a shaving brush attachment for collapsible tubes which may be easily operated to convey shaving cream from the tube into the shaving brush;
Fifth, to provide an improved device, of the character described, of simple, cheap and eii'icient construction having a maximum elliciency;
Sixth, to provide a cheap, simple and practicable construction whereby a shaving brush attachment may be operated in conjunction with a collapsible shaving cream tube.
Figure 1 is an elevation of my improvement attached to a collapsible shaving cream tube; and
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of my improvement.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 is used to designate an ordinary collapsible shaving-cream tube having a reduced and threaded dispensing portion 2 on one end thereof.
An annular collar 3 is screw threaded upon the portion 2 of the tube 1 and is provided with an enlarged portion a to engage the end of the. tube 1 adjacent the threaded portion 2 thereof.
The enlarged portion a is provided with arcuate recesses in order to facilitate the collapsing of the tube when nearly empty, as disclosed in full lines in Fig. 1 and in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
A tubular extension (3 is formed integral with the annular collar 3 and alined with the dispensing portion 2 of the tube 1, to provide a chamber 7, the purpose of which will hereinafter be more fully described.
The outer or free end of the tubular extension 6 is provided with an aperture 8 through which extends the stem of a valve 9 secured to an arcuate spring member 11 having a lateral extension 12, to serve as an operating member, on one end thereof, the other end being secured to a second annular member 14 having a reduced portion 16 pressed or otherwise secured upon the annular collar 3, whereby an annular channel or space is formed between the annular member 1% and the tubular extension 6. lVithin the annular channel or space so formed it have inserted bristles 17 to form a shaving brush. Within the shaving brush or bristles 17 a converging passage or space 18 is formed in alinement with the tubular extension 6 which space 18 forms a passage or channel for the passage of shaving cream from the end of the tubular extension 6 into the bristles 17.
In operation the lateral extension 12 of the arcuate spring member 11 is depressed in the direction indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawings to move the valve 9 inwardly and thereby open the aperture 8 in the end of the tubular extension 6. Simultaneously the body of the tube 1 is pressed to force shaving cream through the chamber 7 of the extension 6 and through the aperture 8 and passage 18 into the bristles or shaving brush 17.
When sufficient cream has been pressed into the bristles or brush 17 the lateral extension 12 of the arcuate spring member 11 is released and the tension thereof normally closes the valve 9 to cover the aperture 8 in the end of the tubular extension 6.
Any pressure within the chamber 7 while the valve 9 is closed operating on the said valve will only tend to close it tighter and thereby prevent cream from inadvertently passing through the aperture 8 and into the bristles 17 when not required or when the device is inoperative.
When the contents of the tube 1 are nearly exhausted the portion of the tube adjacent the threaded reduced portion 3 may be readily pressed or squeezed to force out the remainder of the cream by folding said tube 1 tightly against the said reduced portion 3. This operation is facilitated by the arcuate recesses 5 .Within the enlarged portion 4 of thevcollar 3 Which are provided for the reception of the fingers of the operator to render the space within said enlarged portion is readily accessible.
When a tube has been entirely exhausted the old tube is unscrewed and a new tube inserted in place thereof.
It is obvious from the foregoing that I have provided an improved shaving brush attachment for collapsible shaving cream tubes wherein the construction is such as to render the device practicable, cheap and eiiicient and readily adapted t operate in conjunction with the collapsibletube to dispense cream within the bristles of the brush.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- A shaving attachment for collapsibleshaving cream tubes, having a reduced apertured dispensing portion, comprising an annular collar engaging the dispensing portion and the end of the tube adjacent thereto; a tubular extension formed integral With said collar and apertured at the free end thereof; bristles secured to the collar and arranged around the tubular extension to form a shaving brush having a central space alined with the tubular extension; for the passage of cream; and an inwardly opening valve in the end of the extension arranged to be closed by a pressure within said extension; and means for opening said valve.
In Witness whereof I hereunto set my signature.
BUD OLF MULLER.
