To all whom t may concer/a:
Be it known that l, JONAS G. JoNAssEN, a citizen of the United States, residin at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and tate of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Dispensing-Con tainers, of which the following is a specilication.
rl`his invention relates to a dispensing oo ntainer especially adapted for receiving oils and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a controlling valve for a spout ot an oil can by means of which the user of the can is enabled to first place the nose of the spout in position to direct the fluid into the container to be filled and then start the flow, thereby avoiding waste ot the oil.

ln detail:
T he invention, as herein shown comprises a container body designated in general at 1 and having the rolled up bottom flange 2 in which the edges 3 of a bottom 4 are seated, the said flange and edge being so crimped or otherwise secured together as to form a fluid-tight joint. Similarly an upper end 5 is secured to the container body by rolling together the edges of the upper end with the edges of the container body as indicated at 6 and an opening flange 7 is secured in'place in the head 5 and provided with suitable means such as threads to receive a closing cap 8. At the lowermost point ot' the container body 1 is located a nipple 9 having secured thereto a -flexible spout 10, the end of which carries a dispensing valve 11, said flexible spout 10 be ing held in the upright position by means of a suitable clip 12 secured to the container body 1. As illustrated in Fig. 1, the bottom 4 is uniformly sloped in the direction of the elbow 9 so that the contents of the can may be entirely dispensed.
T he construction of the dispensing valve or nozzle 11 is clearly shown in Fig. 2. A shell 13 having a thumb piece or head 14 is apertured as shown at 15 to accommodate the shank of a body member 16 which is backed by a spring 17 and said body member`16 has a nipple 18 provided with ribs 19 over which the end of the flexible spout 1() is slipped and secured in place by suitable securing means 20. rlhe body 16 has an outlet passage 21 communicating with the flexible spout 10 and ending in a right angle discharge passage indicated at 22 and which has seated, in its closed end,.
a packing disk 23 of such material as leather or the like. Locked to the forward end of the shell 13 is a head member 24 which carries a spout 25 riveted to the said head member 24 or otherwise secured as at 26 and the inner end of said spout member 25 is indicated at 27 and is slidably guided within the passage 22 ot the valve body 16 and has its rear end capable or" being seated against the packing disk 23. The head member 24 and the shell 13 may be locked together by any suitable means such as crimping as indicated at 28, this joint being only for the purpose of permitting assembling of the valve parts. It will be seen by this construction, that when the valve is assembled, pressure on the thumb piece 14 will serve to withdraw a portion of the length 27 of the spout from its guiding passage 22 with the result that the rear end thereof will pass beyond the passage 21 and permit flow of the liquid through the spout until at such time as pressure onthe thumb piece 14 is relieved.
ln order to provide for proper dispensing oi' the contents ot' the container 1 without regard to the position of the nozzle 11, there is embodied within the container and parallel to the walls thereoi, a tubular pump cylinder 29 passing through a suitable sealing shoulder 3G to the exterior of the head 5 and closed by a cap 31 having an inlet opening 32 and which guides a plunger rod 33 having a. knob 34, the lower end of the plunger rod 33 carrying a nut 35 against which is seated a disk 36 providing a seat for the pump cup 37 which is retained in place by 4a nut 38. The aforementioned construction is the usual air pump construction, air being taken in through the opening 32 and bypassing the piston cup 37 and being eX- pelled on the downward stroke of the plunger rod 3% which expands the said cup against the walls of the pump cylinder 29. The lower end of the pump cylinder 29 is joined as indicated at 39 to an elbow 40 flanged as at 4l and having a threaded extension 42 passing through a suitable oponing in the said wall of the container l. The
threaded extension 42 receives a washer 43 against which a cap 44 bears to provide aY lseat 54 receiving a plungervalve `55 having a stem 56 encircled by a suitable valve tension spring 57. This valve is one form which may be used in this connection but any other form of the valve such as the usual Schraeder tire valve may be substituted.
' The lower end of the member 52 is suitably threaded as indicated at 58 to receive a threaded connecting'collar 59 which also accommodates the threaded end 60 of a length of pipe 61, a similar threaded collar 62 being provided at the lower end and threaded onto the elbow 46so that a connection is formed which will deliver air pumped by recipioation of the plunger rod 33 to the upper part of the container body l and thusV provide a pressure for forcing the contents of the container body l therefrom when the dispensing valve 1l is open.
' A suitable bail 63 carrying a handle 64 is attachedby ears 65 to the container body.
The 'flexible spout l() is inclosed by a spiral spring l0 secured at one end to the nipple 9 and this spiral spring returns the nozzle ll to the position shown in Fig. l as soon as the 'operator releases said nozzle.

The combination of a pressure feed Huid container including a receptacle and pressure generating means,`and disgharge means comprising a body having inlet and outlet passages, a spout slidably extending into one of saidpassages and adaptedv for normally closing the ,other passage, and a slidable shell inclosing said body and being rigidly connected to said spout whereby adjustment of said shell with relation to said body will resultin the movement of said spout.

4. A device of the class described comprising a body having an outlet passage and an attaching nipple provided with a passage opening into said outlet passage, a spout slidable within said outlet passage and adapted for closing the passage in said nipple, and a shell having sliding connection with said body and having rigid connection with said spout whereby adjustment offsaid shell will result .in the movement of said spout.
5. A device of the class described comprising a body having an outlet passage and an attaching nipple formed with a passage `opening into the intermediate portion of said outlet passage, a spout having its rear portion slidable in said passage and adapted for closing the passage of said nipple, a shell receiving said body and slidable `with rela-l tion to the saine, said shell'being rigidly connected to said spout, and a spring coni-ined between one end of said shell and one end of said body.
