To all cohom it may concern i Beat known that LA OLPH MAss, a subeet of the German Emperor, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Liquid-Meter Mounting, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the ing 5.
present invention has in view are: to provide a meter which may be installed and removed from a faucet to permit the reestablishment of the faucet in its working condition; to provide means for controlling the flow through the faucet during the transfer or substitutionof valves therefor; and to simplify the construction of the meter and casing therefor, to cheapen the same and to adapt the parts thereof for removal.-

As seen in the drawing, a meter of conventional constructionis inclosed in a cas- The casing 5 is provided with a valve post 6, with which said casingis in tegrally constructed. The post 6 is pro vided with an inlet passage 7 and an outlet passage 8, said passages being divided by a partition wall 9 and having openings 10 and 11 respectively, one to register with the interior section of the delivery channel of a faucet A and the other with the interior opening of said channel. The lower end of the post 6 is provided with a screw-threaded nipple 12 to receive a nut 13..
The casing 5 is cup-like in shape, and is provided at the upper edge with a bolting flange 14, to which a bolting flange 15 is joined in service relation. The bolting flange 15 is part of a dome 16, superposed on which is a casing 17.
The rotor of the meter may be of any suitable construction which will permit the liquid, after passing therethrough, to find an outlet through the opening 19 in the inner wall of the casing 5, to a channel 20. The channel 20 is formed in an oifset 21 of the casing 5, the offset being bored to hold a rotary plug 22, which is provided with a channel 23 adapted to register with the channel 20 in the offset when the swinging handle 24 is properly moved to obtain this effect. 1

and is delivered therefrom through the ro-' tor of the meter contained in the casing 5, to the channels 23, 20 and 8, for delivery through the outlet of the faucet A. hen the handle 24; is moved to rotate the plug 22, the channel 23 is removed from registration with the channel 20, and the flow of liquid terminates. In service relation, the post 6 is held immovable in the body of the faucet A. by the nut 13 being set up to draw the pl-ug'firmly to its. seat, the washerv 25 being interposed between the nut 13 and the body of the faucet A, which is pierced to receive the ported stem of the usual faucet.
In the present construction, I provide a bushing 26, wherein are formed the opposite port openings 27 and 28. In service position, the bushing 26 is disposed with the openings 27 and 28 in register with the delivery channel of the faucet A, and with the port openings 10 and 11 of the passages 7 and 8. c
When it is desired to remove the meter, the bushing 26 is rotated to interpose its solid wall in the path of the passage through the faucet A. To this end, the bushing is extended above the hub of the faucet A, and is provided with an extended flange 29 having a perimeter, to adapt the same for engagement by a wrench. vVhen thus provided with the bushing 26 having the flange 29, the operation of removing the meter casing 5 is as follows: The nut 13 is preliminarily eased until the bushing 26 may be rotated, employmg for this purpose a wrench to engage the flange 29. "When the bushing is properly placed with the solid wall thereof extending across the inner portion of the delivery channel of the faucet A, the nut 13 is removed from the nipple 12. The casing 5 and parts connected therewith are now lifted. the post 6 being thus extricated from the bushing 26, which, continuing in the faucet A, prevents the flow of liquid therethrough. It will be understood that the meter may be replaced or altered and returned, the post 6 and there held firmly by the nut 13.
