Be it known that l, WASHINGTON lL. DUR- nnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Franklin, in the county of Monroe, State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Extensible Sectional Bedstead; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.v

This invention relates lto an improved extensible sectionall bedstead` and one of the objects of the invention is the provision of bed-stead, in which the sections are extensible, and means provided for extending the sections laterally, in order to alter the Width of the bedstead.

In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth shown in the drawings and claimed.

1 and 2 designate the side rails of the bedstead, and 3 and 4 the head and foot boards, which comprise respectively the corner posts `5 and 6, and 7 and 8. The corner posts 6 and 8 'are rprovided with tubular rods 9 and 10 while the posts 5 and 7 have rods 11 and A12, which telescope the tubular rods 9 and 10, so that the corner posts 5 and 7 may be adjusted. ln other words the head and foot boards may be made wide or narrow, by extending the rods 11. 19 and 20. The arms 19 extend upwardly, and by means of the links 21 the upper ends of the arms 19 are connected to the corner posts 5 and 7. Said links are pivotally connected to the corner posts 5 and 7 as at 22. The arms 20 of the cranks, when the bedstead parts are in their adjustable positions as shown in Fig. 1, extend lat.- erally, and their lateral ends are integrally connected by means of the rod 23. lt is to be notedthat when it is desired to widen the bedstead, the arms 20 are moved down-- wardly, by applying pressure upon the rod 23, substantially at its central portion, so as to move the arms downwardly uniformly.

-When the arms 20 are thus moved, the arms 19 are oscillated laterally, and through the medium of the links 21, the side rail 2 and the corner posts 5 and 7 are moved laterally. A reverse movement of the arms 20 will act to reduce the width of the bed, the tubular rods 14 and the rods 15 may support either a bed spring or al mattress, as may be desired.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is l A1. ln a bedstead, the combination with a pair of bedstead sections, each comprising1 side rails and corner posts, one at each corner of the bedstcad, said corner posts having telescopical tubular united members, thereby forming head and foot boards rcspectively, said side rails having tubular members telescopically united, of a pair of cranks, one rockably mounted in a bearing on one of the tubular members of each of the head or footboards, each crank having Ian arm, links connecting said arms with corresponding corner posts of the bedstead, and a U-shaped rod havin its arms connected to the cranks axially for rocking them, for extending or retracting the bed' stead sections. l
