HOSE-SUPPORTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. Co'rTUN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hose-Supporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the inventio is to provide a new and improved hose supporter arranged to permit the user to readily connect the supporter with the hose and to disengage it therefrom. Another ob ect is to securely grip and hold thehose without danger of tearing or otherwise in uring thehose material. Another object is to provide a hose supporter which issimple and durable in construction and easily manipulated by the user.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointedout in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying draw ings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

The carrying or supporting member 10 of the hose supporter is preferably in the form of a sheet metal plate provided on the upper end with a loop 11 connected by a link 12 with the usual loop 13 held on the elastic band let or other part on which the supporter is used. The supporting member 10 is provided on its lower end with an eye 20 through which is adapted to pass 'abutton 21, preferably made of rubber, and mounted on a stud 22 attached to the lower end of a flexible member 23, preferably in the form of a doubled-up piece of tape, held on its upper end on the link 12, as plainly shown in the drawings. It is understood that the hose material is engaged at the back by the button 21 and then pushed by the aid of the button through the eye 20 to the front of the carrying member 10.

In order to securely. fasten the hose material to the button 20, use is made of a spring clamp 30, preferably formed of a single piece of spring wire, doubled up to forma bend 31 and side members 32, 33, of which the bond 31 is pivoted on a lug 35E struck up on the face of the carrying member 10. The side members 32, 33 cross each other and are formed into complementary half loops 35, 36 in register with the eye 20 and adapted to clamp the hose material on,
the shank of the button 21 immediately in front of the carrying member 10; The half loops 35, 36 are normally in closed position, and in order to permit of conveniently opening the same use is made of fingerpieces 37, 38 forming integral sidewise extensions of the lower ends of the loops 35 and The fingerpieces 37 and 38 project at their ends beyond the sides of the carrying member 10.
to permit the user to readily take hold of thefingerpieces 37 and 38 and compress the same toward each other thereby opening the half loops 35 and 36 for the passage of the head of the button 21 with the hose material engaged therewith. On releasing the fingerpieces 37 38, the side arms 32, 33 close by their own resiliency and thus cause the half loops 35, 36 to-firmly clamp the hose material-against the shank of the button 21. It will be noticed that the spring clamp 30 has a limit-ed sidewise movement owing to the hinged connection with the lug 34:, and in order to hold the clamp 30 from rearward or forward movement use ismade of a guide In using the hose supporter, the button 21 when disengaged from the eye 20 and the half loops 35 and 36, as shown in Fig. 3, can readily be engaged with the hose material, and then the button with the hose material thereon is pushed through the eye '20 and through the opening formed by the half loops 35 and 36 held in open position by the operator pressing the fingerpieces 37 and 38 toward each other. As soon as the head of the button 21 has passed through the opening formed by the'half loops 35 and 36, the operator releases the fingerpieces 37 and 38 thus allowing the side members 32 and 33 to close by their own resiliency thus closing the half loops 35 and 36 whereby the latter firmly clamp the hose material against the shank of the button 21. It will be noticed that the button2 l 1815 held against accidental disengagement from the eye 20 and the half loops 35 and 36"and at the same time the hose material is firmly held in place. IVhen it is desired to disengage the hose supporter from the hose the user takes hold of the finger- pieces 37 and 38 and presses the same toward each other thus disengaging the half loops 35 and 36 to permit of moving the carrying member 10 andthe parts thereon forwardly out of engagement with the button and the hose. The hose can now be readily disengaged from the button thus completely freeing the hose supporter from the hose. It will also be noticed that when the'hose supporter is in use itsecurely grips and holds the hose without danger of tearing or otherwise injuring the hose.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent r 1. In a hose supporter, a rigid carrying member having an eye, a flexible member carrying a button having a head and a shank, of which the head is adapted to pass through the said eye, and a spring clamp held on thesaid carrier and having arms provided with complementary normally closed half loops in register with the said eye to clamp the hose material around the shank of the button, the said loops terminating in crossed sidewise extending fingerpieces adapted to be engaged by the fingers of the user of the hose supporter to push the finger-pieces toward'each other to open the loops.
2. In a hose supporter, a rigid carrying. member having an eye, a flexible member carrying a button having a head and a shaft, of which the head is adapted .to pass through,

provided with complementary normally closed half loops in register with the said eye to clamp the hose material around the shank of the button, the said loops tern1inating in sidewise oppositely extending and crossing fingerpieces adapted to be engaged by the fingers of the user of the hose supporter to push the fingerpieces toward each other to separate said loops, and a guideway on the free end of the said carrying member through which extends each of said fingerpieces;
'3. In a hose'supporter, a rigid carrying member having an'eye adjacent one end, a flexible member secured to said carrying member atits opposite end and carrying a button having a head and a shank of which the head is adapted to pass through the aforesaid eye, a spring clamp formed of a single piece of spring wire bent to provide a head and side arms, said arms crossing and provided with complementary oppositely bent half loops in'reg'ister with the said eye, the said bend being pivoted to, and carried on the face of thesaid carrying member.
4; In a hose supporter, arigid carrying member comprising a plate having an eye adjacent one end, a flexible member-flexibly connected to said plate at the opposite end and carrying abuttonhaving a head and a shank, of which the head is adapted to pass through the aforesaid eye, and a spring clamp member formed of a single piece of spring wire doubled to provide a head and side arms, said arms crossing in opposite directions and provided with complementary oppositely curved half loops in register with the said eye, the said bend being pivoted on the said carrying member, the half loops terminating in oppositely projecting sidewise extending fingerpieces.
