Description
G. BAUER.
SOAP CUTTER. APPLICATION FILED APR. 17. 1919.
, Patented Oct. 21,1919. I
i To all whom it may concern:

raise soils-coarse...
Be it known that I, GEORGE BAUER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of WVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap-Cutters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for slicing or flaking soap or similar material.
It is in general the object of my invention to simplify and otherwise improve the structure and to increase the efliciency of devices of this character, particularly with respect to the provision of an automatic feed for the work material whereby to procure an even cutting operation thereof.
It is further my object to provide a compact and eilicient household device embodying the foregoing characteristics and which may be readily mounted on a suitable support and manipulated to procure a rapid and even slicing or flaking operation on soap or other material.
With the above and other objects in View, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and defined by the appended claim, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment might be made by those skilled, in the art, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figurel is a longitudinal sectional view through a soap cutting device embodying i my invention.
7 through on a plane indicated by the line 22'of Fig. 1, and 7 l a Fig. 3'is an end view of the device. Referring now more. particularly to the accompanying drawings, the present embodiment-of the inventionincludes a skeleton chamber comprising longitudinal angle" sections 5 connected at their ends by transverse sections 6; Clamp legs/Z depend from the lower sections 5 for seating engagement on the edge of the table or other support a v and a- U-shaped screw bracket 9 depends from the legs for the reception of a clamping screw 10 whereby the device maybe firmly clamped on the support.
specification of lietters'l atent. lfatentdflct. 21, 1919.
. Application filed April 17, Serial No. 250,813.
Upstanding bearing lugs 11 are formed on the top transverse sections 6 and a screw shaft 12 is journaled in these lugs, having one end offset to form a crank handle 13. The other end ofthe shaft is squared for engagement in a correspondingly squared knife hub 14 havin a pair of radial legs 15 movable across t e adjacent end of the chamber, which is open to permit freefeeding movement of soap or other material therefrom. To form a guard for the knife blades 15, preventing possible injury to the operator and also preventing damage to the knife blades, a circular plate enlargement 16 is formed on the adjacent end of the chamher, the diameter of this plate being slightly greater than the span of the blades, which move closely adj acentthereto. A traveling sleeve 17is threaded on the screw shaft 12 and this sleeve carries a depending follower head 18 which extends transversely in the chamber and has forwardly extended wings 19 at its ends slidable on trackways formed by the edges of the lower angle sections 5. For clamping a bar ofsoap or other work material to this follower head whereby to prevent accidental forward movement due to jarring or other force, a screw 20 is threaded in one of the wings 19 and carries a clamp head 21 adapted to. clamp the bar of soap or the like against the other wing 19.
. A device of the class described including askeleton chamber having longitudinal edge bars connected together at their ends, means for supporting said chamber, a screw shaft 3' ournaled on and extending longitudinally of the chamber, a knife on the shaft'at one end of the chamber, a sleeve threaded on the shaft, a follower head carried by the sleeve and depending into the chamber, arms on said head extending transversely of the clamp work material between said clamp chamber and having their outer end directhead and the opposite wing.
ed longitudinally ofthe chamber to form In testimony that -I claim the foregoing 10 wings slidable on the lower edge barsof the I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, skeleton chamber, a clamp screw threaded" in the county of Milwaukee and State of through one of said wings and a clamp head Wisconsin.
on the inner end of said screw adapted to GEORGE BAUER.
