This invention relates to improvements in rotary safety razors. v
An object of the invention is to provide an improved rotary safety razor which will be manually operated by rolling the same back and forth across the face of the user.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved rotary safety razor which will include a rotary perforated guard mounted in a fork supported by a suitable handle, and a geared rotary blade positioned longitudinally of vthe rotary guard and immediately next to the inner surface thereof, whereby when said rotary safety razor is rolled backwards and forward across the face, the whiskers will be quickly and efficiently cut.
Another object of the invention is to provide a manually operated rotary safety razor which will include a handle upon which a fork is supported, which in turn supports a fixed longitudinally disposed central bearing member, and a perforated rotary guard being closed at its opposite ends by the end members to which a drive gear is attached for meshing with a smaller gear mounted upon the stub shafts of a rotary multiedged cutter blade operable immediately adjacent the inner surface of said rotary guard.
Another object of the invention is to provide a highly efficient form of manually operated rotary safety razor which may be manufactured and produced at a minimum cost.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.

Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved rotary safety razor;

Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view through the improved rotary safety razor;
Figure 5 is a side elevational view of one of the fixed bearing arms which will be supported by one end of a handle yoke, and which will support a stub shaft on one end of the rotary cutter blade, and
Figure 6 is an end View of the said bearing member illustrated in Figure 5.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a handle I which supports `the U -shaped yoke '2, said yoke being formed with square openings or apertures 3 formed through its opposite side arms. v
A pair of similarly formed bearing members 4 and 5 are provided, and are formed on their outer ends with the square shank portions 6 and I which Aare adapted to be passed through the square openings 3 in the outer ends of the said yoke 2, and to extend flush with the outer surface of said yoke arms. Round bearing portions 8 and 9 are formed on the bearing members l and 5 immediately adjacent the square shank portions 6 and v1, whilethe inner ends of said bearing members 4 and 5 are enlarged to provide the circular bearing portions I0 and II, the same being extended outwardly to form the bearing arm extensions I2 and I3, which are apertured as at I4. The axial bores I5 and I6 are formed through the bearing members 4 and 5 and are adapted to receive the shaft I1 which is formed with the head I8 on one end, and is externally threaded as at I9 on its opposite end to receive the nut 20 for holding the shaft in position within the yoke 2. The concentric grooves 2| and 22 are formed in the inner faces or surfaces of the bearing members 4 and 5, and are adapted to receive the sleeve 23 therein, which acts as a spacing member to hold the associated parts in their proper relation.
The disc shaped end members 24 and 25 are centrally apertured and are adapted to be loosely and rotatably mounted on the bearing surfaces I0 and II on the bearing members 4 and 5, and
-Y each end member 24 and 25 is formed with a peripheral seat 26 in which the perforated cylindrical guard member 21 will be seated, to extend flush with the periphery of the said disc end members 24 and 25.
The large drive gears 21 and 28 will be secured to the inner surfaces of the disc shaped end members 24 and 25 by means of the screws 29, to rotate with said end members upon the bearing surfaces or portions I0 and II formed on the bearing members 4 and 5.
An improved multiple edged rotary cutter blade 3l! will be provided with the stub axles 3| and 32 at its opposite ends7 the same being adapted to be received in the bearing apertures I4 in the said arm extension I2 and I3 on the bearing members 4 and 5. The cutter blade 33 will be provided with a plurality of cutting edges 33 which will rotate rapidly immediately adjacent the inner surface of the perforated rotary guard member so as to cut the whiskers close to the skin of the face when the said rotary razor is rolled back and forth over the face of the user. Small driven gears 34 and 35 will be secured and fixed to the stub axles 3| and 32, and will intermesh with the drive gears 21 and 28 whereby rotation of the cutter blade will be effected as the rotary safety razor is rolled back and forth across the face with the handle I at approximately 45 from the contact point of the cutter with respect to the whiskers.
While the improved cutter blade has been illustrated as being in the shape of a cross, being formed with eight cutting edges, it may readily be made in spiral form, or in any other desired form.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that there has been devised and provided a highly eicient form of rotary safety razor which may be manufactured and produced at a relatively low cost.
While the preferred embodiment of the instant invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. A rotary safety razor including a handle, a fork supported thereon, bearing members fixed to said fork arms, a spacing sleeve mounted between said bearing members, a shaft extending through said bearing members and said sleeve disc shaped end members rotatably mounted on said bearing members, a cylindrical perforated guard secured to said disc shaped end members and journaled in said bearing members, a rotary blade geared to said end members for rotation when said razor is rolled over a surface, and drive gears secured to said disc shaped end members and received within said guide, said rotary blade having an axis of rotation at an angle with respect to the axis of said handle being rotatable therewith.
2. The subject matter as claimed in claim 1, and driven gears fixed to the rotary blade and ineslied with said drive gears.
3. The subject matter as claimed in claim 1, driven gears fixed to said rotary blade and meshed with said drive gears, and bearing surfaces on said bearing members for said disc shaped end members and said drive gears.
4. The subject matter as claimed in claim 1, driven gears xed to said rotary blade and meshed with said drive gears, bearing surfaces on said bearing members for said disc shaped end members and said drive gears, and concentric grooves in said bearing members receiving said spacing sleeve.
