Description
L. BARCELOUX.
SKIRT FITTING DEVICE.-
APPLICATION HLED MAY 3, m9.
Patented Oct. 14, 1919.
UNITED TATE PATENT @FFICE.
LOUIS BARCELOUX, OF ST. HYACIN'THE, QUEBEC, CANADA.
SKIRT-FITTING DEVICE.
Application filed May 3, 1919.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LoUIs BARCELOUX, a subject of the Kin of Great Britain, residing at St. Hyacinthe, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Fitting Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in devices for fitting skirts and the principal object resides in the provision of means for accurately determining the proper length and width of the garment during the fitting operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a gaging device which is adjustable in horizontal and vertical planes, so that the proper width and length of the skirt can be quickly ascertained and same may be altered at a single fitting.
A further object of the invention is to provide serrations on one of the members for the insertion of the stitches at the bottom of the skirt.
A. still further object of the invention is to provide a device, wherein the rin member is adjustable in a diametrical plane.
With the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter appear as the description continues, the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly point ed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings has been shown a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details herein exhibited, but the right is hereby reserved to any changes, alterations or modifications to which recourse may be had that come within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing the eiiiciency of the same.
In the accompanying drawngs:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im proved fitting device and the supporting stool thereof;
Fig. 2 is a fragmental side elevation illustrating the application of the device to a skirt;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail elevational Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 14, 1919.
Serial No. 294,497.
view of the adjustable ring member with portions broken away;
Fig. 1 is an enlarged sectional view of the vertical adjusting elements;
Fig. 5 is a modification of the ring memher; and,
Fig. 6 is a sectional elevation-of the ring.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings wherein like and corresponding parts are designated by similar reference characters throughout the several views.
In the device illustrated in the drawings, the numeral 1, denotes a low settee member, comprising a platform 2, supported on legs 3, the latter being connected by the usual rounds 4.
The lower surface 5 of the platform 2, adjacent one end has secured thereto, a collar 6, having an aperture and said aperture is in register with a similar opening in the pla'tform.
A vertical post 7 is adjustably mounted in the openings in the collar 6 and platform 2 respectively, and carries at its upper end the cross bars 8. A split ring 9 is secured in any desirable manner to the cross bars 8 and serves as the supporting means for the same.
The collar 6 is likewise provided with a transverse opening adapted for the reception of a wing bolt 10, the inner shank 11 of which engages the lower end of the vertical post 7, to hold the same in adjusted position on the settee.
The ring 9 is adjustable to vary the diameter thereof, by means of a band 12, which latter is secured by rivets 13 to one of the free ends of the rings, while the opposite end of the band 12 is slottedat 14 and a bolt 15 is mounted in the opposite free end of the ring and carries a wing nut 16.
The ring 9 on its lower marginal edge is formed with a plurality of spaced serrations 17, which latter, when the ring is positioned as illustrated in Fig. 6 afford the entrance of a needle for stitching the inturned or seam portion at this point, the cloth being folded over to position the lower edge of said ring in the crease. In this manner the proper draping of the skirt is assured and the lower edge of same will hang uniformly with the platform.
In the modification illustrated in Fig. 5, the ends of the ring member 9 overlap and the said ends are formed with registering slots 18 and a bolt 19 passes through said slots and carries a Wing nutQO. By adjusting this rin member 9 the relative diameter is altered.
When a skirt is to be fitted as illustrated in Fig. 2, the party steps upon the settee Within the ring 9, Which latter has been lowered, then the ring is adjusted on the post 7, by the adjustment of the Wing bolt 10, to the height desired, which Will represent the length of the skirt. Then the ring 9 is adjusted, by bringing together or spacing apart the free ends thereof and thus the Width of the skirt is obtained.
It Will thus be seen that these measurements may be accurately and speedily made, and in use as illustrated in Fig. 6,,the ring -9 is positioned above the skirt line and the material is turned in at the bottom and basted, by passing the needle and thread through the serrations or openings 17 and -When such basting is completed, the skirt may be then taken off and completed.
ring carried by said post, a band connected to one end of said ring, the other end of said band being slotted, a bolt arranged in the other end of said rin and disposed Within the slotted portion 0 said band and a nut carried by said bolt and adapted to hold said rin in adjusted position.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
LOUIS BARCELOUX.
