Description

A. WEST.
RECORD INDEX.
APPLICATION FILED APR. a. 19m.
1,317,1 14. Patented Sept. 23, 1919.
5 N06 i i l/VVE/VTUI? AnTl/ufiM/g g A TTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR WEST, OF BLACKWELL, OKLAHOMA.
RECORD-INDEX.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR WEST, a citibe zen of the United States, and a resident of Blackwell, in the county of Kay and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Record-Indexes, of which the following is a speeification.
My invention is an improvement in record indexes, and has for its object to provide a. device of the character specified especially adapted for disk records.
In the drawin s:
Figure 1 is a ront view of a record envelop properly prepared to use the descriptive label as in the index;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows adjacent the line;
Fig. 3 is a front view of the index label removed.
In the present embodiment of the invention, the envelop 1 for the record, which carries on the front thereof the label 2 which gives the title and a description of the selection, has lines 3 which partially separate this label and that portion of the envelop which carries the same from the remainder.
The lines of perforation are spaced outwardly from the ends and sides of the label, as shown, in order that when this portion of the envelop is detached, the label will have a mar in suflicient for binding. This margin of t e portion 4 which is so arated from the envelop has perforations 5, through which binding cords may be passed to bind the label in the index.
As a record is received, the label is numbered as indicated at 6, and the portion 4 of the envelop is detached. Now this por tion may be bound in a loose-leaf binder of suitable construction, the covers being suitably ornamented if desired and suitably labeled. As a new record is obtained, the label is removed and bound in the binder, so that there is always an easily accessible list of tha selections owned by the owner of the in ex.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 23, 1919. Application filed April 3, 1918. Serial No. 226,486.
It will be understood that the record will numbered in the same manner as the label and the record will be placed in its case in a suitable place of storage. The arrangement of the case carrying the records will be the same as the arrangement of the labels in the binder and any record may be easily placed by reference to the index.
These envelops should be perforated and the label portion partially separated by lines of perforation at the place of origin, but it is obvious that, if desired, an additional label might be inserted in the envelop, the additional label corresponding in all respects to that upon the envelop. Thus when a record is purchased, the purchaser would remove the additional label of good paper ready for mounting and would mount it in the loose-leaf binder.
It is obvious, also, that the additional labels might be already mounted on strips of heavy paper of suitable size for binding, or that the additional labels might be used without strips. Preferably, however, they are printed on good paper or cardboard ready for binding.
It will be understood that the binding cords may be replaced by metal strips or wires and that the lines of perforation may be merely indications for cutting or tearing.
I claim:
An envelop for disk records having a label and having that portion of the envelop which carries the label partially separated from the remainder of the envelop to facilitate the easy removal of the said portion, the partially separated portion extending beyond the label at each edge of the label to provide a margin, and the portion having perforations in the portion of the margin at the top of the label for permitting the label to be bound in a loose-leaf binder.
ARTHUR WEST.
