v MEANS ron. BOXING MUSIC-ROLLS.
. Spe'qiiation OfIgetterSPatent PatentedSept.23,1919,`
f Y Application iled January 26, 1915. Serial No. 4,567.
only varied in lwidth but in. l1eight,---result` ing in an uneven', `unsightly.appearance of the rows of said boxes ina cabinet; orif not in a cabinet, resulting in the uneven, unstable stackingI of layers of said boxeson each other. These difficulties and disadvantages are remedied by my invention.
In the drawings Figure l is a front view of a row of music-roll boxes within the practice of my invention, the boxes being shown -labelend toward the front, with the middle box in vertical cross-section; Fig. `2 is a longitudinal section partly in elevation, oi' the same box; Fig. 3 is an enlarged crossseetional view of music roll and box to indicate the working of roll retaining clip; and Fig. 4L is a view partly in section of the bottom block and clip portion of a box; Figs. 3 and 4 are taken on lines 3-3 and H, respectively, of Fig. 2; but in Fig. 4, the cover and body portions of the box are omitted.
Describing now the devices of the drawings, 1 is the body of the box with the usual telescoping top or cover portion 2. The boxes in Fig. l are all of the same height in .spite of the fact that they contain music rolls of widely diii'er'ent diameters; whereas they are of different widths to conform to said different diameters of the rolls. This still keeps the length of the row the least possible but makes the tops of all the boxes uniform or of the same level.
In box B, the roll rests as usual on the bottom of the regular box-body as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1. Vhereas in box A, a raised bottom is provided to elevate the roll into a more accessible position adj acent the mount of the box. This extra bottom consists of a strip of material bent up into the form of an inverted trough 3. Spaced lblocks lfit the cross-section of the trough whose sides are secured to it by 'brads 5 (Fig. 4L). The sides of the trough or the bottoms of the blocks or both may be glued to the inside of the box. 6 is a clip or clasp to releasably hold the roll and consists of a strip of springy metal bent as shown to have opposed spring arms to recelve and clasp the roll, and a connecting portion` by which the clasp is secured by in Fig. 4.
By thus boxing the rolls in boxes which differ zmerely in width but not in height for rolls of different diameters, it will be seen from Fig. l thatthey will have 4an eventopped satisfactory appearance on the shelf of a cabinet or if not in a cabinet, Will stack nicely in even, stable layers.
What I claim is 1. Means for boxing music rolls of different diameters, comprising a plurality of individual boxes for the rolls, said boxes having widths varying' with the diameters of the rolls, but all having the same height `eyelets 7 to the member 3, as best shown corresponding t0 that for the `largest roll,Y
whereby all of the boxes may be arranged side by side in a horizontal row with their tops all occupying a common horizontal plane, or may be stacked uniformly upon one another in even, stable layers.
2. A box for a music-roll and the like said box having a greater outside height than width and a raised bottom in said box comprising an inverted trough-like member inserted therein and blocks fitting across said trough.
3. A box for a music-roll and the like having a height corresponding to a roll of large diameter Ibut a width corresponding to a roll of small diameter, and a raised bottom in said box tol support the contained roll adjacent the opening of the box and a clip mounted on said bottom for releasably clasping the roll.
4. A box for a music-roll and the like having a height corresponding to a roll of large diameter but a width corresponding to a roll of small diameter, and a raised bottom in said vbox to support the contained roll adjacent the opening of the box and a clip mounted on said bottom `for releasably clasping the roll, and blocks under said raised bottom.
5. A box for a music-roll and the like f so yGopilveslofV `this patent may 'be i'rbtane'l for vefcents each, by addressing the ,.Commission-er'` ofV Patents, .Y i
to a roll of small diameter, and aA raised boittom in said box to support the contained rollfadjaoenty the opening` of the box and.,V
a clip mounted on said bottom'for releas ably clasping the roll, and blocks under said raised bottom severally located at its ends andjunder said clip.
6.' Means for boxing music-rolls of difyferent diameters, comprising a plurality of,
individual boxes for the rolls, said boxes having `Widths varying Withthe diametersY plane, or 4may be staoked uniformly upon one another in even, stable layers; the boxes for the smaller rolls havingtmeans to support the contained rolls adajacent the openvin s of the boxes.
A'box for a music-"roller the like, having a greater outside height than Width,v a raised bottom in said'box; to support the oontainedroll in positionadjacent the open-V ing rof the boxand releasable'roll-holding means associated With said raised bottom.y
8.V A box for a music-roll or the like,
having a greater outside height than Width;
a raised-bottomin saidboxor supporting the Contained roll 4in position adjacent the opening ofthe box. said bottom vcomprisingvan inverted trough-like memberinserted therein; andfreleasable roll-holding means in said vbox assoeiatedv'vvith said kraised bottom.
9. A plurality of. superposed layers ,of
boxes containing l,individual music rolls of different diameters, the tops of the boxes of each layer 'occupying a common horizontal `plane, vall of the boxes havingV a vuniform Y height corresponding. to that for Vthe music roll of largest diameter and the boxes having Widths varying with the diameters of the music rolls. l
V10. As an element of.` a stack of superposed layers of boxes containing individual music rolls of different diameters,f.the tops of the boxes of each layeroccupying a common` i w 'horizontal plane, a unit comprising -a'box and a music. roll therein, the height' and Width of such box conforming With the diameterV of the roll Which it contains, and another box, Vand music rollY therein, the latter music roll being 0f smaller diameter `than that of the the music roll Which it containsand having a height conforming With, the height of the first mentioned box ofthe unit.
In-'testimony whereof I'have signed my A name .to this specification, in the presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses, this 18th olay r of January, 1915. EDW'N BURRITToPROUDFIT.
