IMPROVEMENT IN BOOT AND SHOE CLEANERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,620, dated September 24, 1872;

Be it known that I, JOHN MALA KEY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boot and Shoe Cleaner, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a top view of my improved device, and Fig. 2 is a detail longitudinal section of the same taken through the line a: m, Fig. 1.

My invention has for its object to furnish a simple and convenient device for cleaning boots and shoes from dust, mud, 850.; and it consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the device, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents the base-board of the device, and to the middle of the forward part of which are attached bristles a, in the same Way as when making an ordinary brush. B are side boards, which are made shorter than the boards A, and the lower edges of which are attached to the upper side of the boards A, along the forward part of its side edges. To the upper and middle parts of the boards B are attached bristles b. To the forward parts of the upper edges of the side boards Bis attached a crossboard, (J, to the middle part of which are attached bristles o. By this arrangement the bristles a will clean the sole of the boot or shoe, the bristles b will clean its sides, and the bristles 0 will clean the top of the toe of said boot or shoe. The rear part of the base-board A is surrounded by a metallic hand, strap, or plate, D, to serve as a scraper for cleaning mud from the soles of boots or his JOHN MALARKEY.
