t to the outlet pipes. Uniformity in the humidity of the atmosphere is controlled through the instrumentality of a thermostat or automatic expansion valve 16 arranged in the steam pipe 8.
In some instances, such as when the operations in a mill are first started, the steam being shut off and the dampers all turned upwardly or in opened position, the fan may be driven in a reverse direction to create a suction through all the pipes 5 as well m as the main pipe which operation will efliciently relieve the room of foul atmosphere.
. Thus, the atmosphere may easily be changed or renewed and the humidity controlled in an eflicient manner. --The construction is simple and dilferent localities may be rendered more humid than others merely by the control of the dampers.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isthe latter over the steam inlet, a drip pipe leading from the steam chamber, and a U- shaped drain trough arranged in the mixing chamber for conducting condensation waters from the interior of the shell to the steam chamber.
7 2. A humidifier comprising a series of stepped units, each consisting of a shell opened at both ends, a fan arranged at one end of the units for forcing air axially therethrough, an internal hollow structure in each shell having a longitudinally extending mixing chamber opening at one end into the shell and having oppositely extending wing conduits leading from its opposite end and discharging through the shell to the exterior,
a steam chamber arranged exteriorly of the shell and communicating with the mixing chamber, a perforated bafile interposed between the mixing and steam chambers, a
. steam supply pipe connected to the steam chamber, asolid baffle arranged in the latter over the steam inlet, a drip pipe leading from thesteam chamber, a U-shaped drain trough arranged in the mixing chamber for conducting condensation waters from the interior of the shell to the steam chamber, and dampers controlling the opened forward ends of'themixing chambers, r
3. A humidifier comprising a series of stepped units, each consisting of a shell opened at both ends, a fan arranged at one end of the units for forcing air axially therethrough, an internal hollow structure in each shell having a longitudinally extending mixing chamber opening at one end into the shell and having oppositely-extending wing conduits leading from its opposite end and discharging through the shell to the exterior, a steam chamber exteriorly of the shell and communicating with the mixing chamher, a steam supply pipe connected to the steam chamber, means interposed between the steam inlet and the mixing chamber for diffusing the steam, and means controlling the admission of air through the forward opened end of the mixing chamber.
4:. A humidifier comprising a series of stepped units, each consisting of a shell opened at both ends, a fan arranged at one end of the units for forcing air axially therethrough, an internal hollow structure in each shell having a longitudinally extending mixing chamber opening at one end into the shell and having oppositely extending wing conduits leading from its opposite end and discharging through the shell to the exterior, and means for moistening the air passing through the mixing chamber.
5. In a humidifier, a shell, means for forcing a current of air axially therethrough, a mixing chamber disposed oflt' axis within the shell, means for controlling the admission of air from the shell into the chamber, and means for moistening the air in the cham ber.
63. In a humidifier, a shell, means for forcing a current of air axially therethrough, a mixing chamber arranged within the shell to one side of its axis, said chamber having lateral discharge passages, means for controlling the admission of air from the shell into the chamber, and means for admitting steam directly into the mixing chamber.
7. In a humidifier, a shell, means for creating a current of air therethrough, a mixing chamber communicating with the shell, means for controlling the admission of air from the shell into the chamber, said chamber being arranged within the shell and having an outlet leading through the same, a steam chamber communicating with. the mixing chamber, and a foraminous partition between the steam and mixing chambers for diffusing the steam as it enters the mixing chamber.
8. A humidifier comprising a series of stepped units, each consisting of a shell opened at both ends, a fan arranged at one end of the units for forcing air axially therethrough, an internal hollow structure in each shell having a longitudinally extending mixing chamber arranged ofi center and opening at its forward end into the shell and at its opposite end through the shell to the exterior, airmoistening means communicating with the chamber, and means controlling the passage of air through the chamber.
9. A humidifier for house and factory ventilation, comprising a single air-conducting shell having lateral discharge openings at longitudinally spaced points, and steamsupplying means for each discharge opening to moisten the outflowing air, and means located in the vicinity of each discharge opennames to this specification in the presence of 15 two subscribing Witnesses.
