b all whom it may concern Be it known that I, N 11.1mm I'I. Bozi a'rrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vincland, inthe county of Cumberland and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hydrocarbon Multiple Burners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements 11] oil burners and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a multiple burner employing kerosene or like hydrocarbon oils, whereby flames varying in size can be produced thereby, thus rendering the burner effective for producing different degrees of "heat.
Another and equally important object of the invention is to provide the burner with a novel form. of control valve whereby the passage of fuel into the different branch burners thereof can be controlled by an operator.
In order that the invention and the manner of its application may be readily understood by those skilled in the art, I have in the accompanying illust ative drawings and in the detailed following description based thereon set forth a preferred embodiment of the invention.

Having more particular reference to the drawings, in connection with which like reference characters will. designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the improved burner includes the usual frame desi nated in its entirety by the numeral 1 and comprising a base plate 2 havingfeet 3 secured to the underside thereof at points in proximity to its opposite ends, which feet as will be understood, serve as means for offer tually supporting'said frame. A conduit 4 is supported on the upper portion of the frame and ha a fuel inlet connection 5 en gaged therewith, which connection as will be understood, is in turn, engaged by a suitable threaded outer ends of the same.

Rotatably mounted in the valve casing 8 is a multiple way valve 11 which valve as will be noted, is provided with a plurality of right angularly formed ports or ways 12, portions of which are internally screw threaded in order that the screw threaded ends of burner pipes 13 may be turned into engagement therewith, the outer ends of said pipes being closed by caps i l which are turned into engagement with. the screw In this connection, it is to be noted that the various burner pipes 13 are provided with a varying number of burner openings and as a consequence, flames of different intensities may be produced thereby. Engaged with the rear end of the rotatable valve 11 is a valve stem 15, said stem projecting through a bearing opening formed in the screw threaded closure cap 16, which cap as will be noted, is turned into engagement with a screw threaded portion of the valve casing 8. It may be here noted, that the remaining end of the valve casing 8 is partly open in order that the various burner pipes 13 may extend from the rotatable valve 11.
A plurality of flame deflecting elements generally indicated by the numeral 17 may be and preferably are rotatably mounted on the conduit or retort chamber 4 of the burner and as will be understood, serve to spread the flame produced by the burner pipes 13.
In using my improved burner, the valve 11 is rotated until the proper or desired burner has been connected to the branch conduit 7, whereupon the gas generated in the retort chamber 4 will then flow through the alined burner pipes and may be then ignited. Flames difl'ering in degrees of heat may be, of course, produced by my improved burner, by aliningany one of the various burner pipes with the branch conduit 7 by rotating the valve 11.
It is of course to be understood, that any suitable form of starting means may be employed by the burner, whereby the retort chamber or conduit 45 may be initially heated to cause the generation of the gaseous fuel. However for the purpose of convenience, I arrange a sheet of asbestos 10 in the dished face of the base 2, which as will be understood forms a receptacle for retaining the starting fuel during the burning of the same.
To protect the valve 11 from the intense heat generated when the burner is in operation, I mayand preferably do arrange a vertical asbestos guard 17 on the base 2 in front of the valve casing 8.
Manifestly, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as i within the scope of my claims, I consider within the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. In a burner of the character described the combination with a base and a conduit arranged above the base and through which the supply of fuel passes, of a valve casing arranged in communication with the conduit, a valve plug rotatably mounted in the casing provided with a plurality of ways any one of which may be arranged in communication with the conduit at its inner end, a
plurality of burner pipe connected to the plug and arranged in communication with the outer ends of the ways, said pipes being positioned above the base and beneath the conduit and provided with a varying number of burner openings, and means for ad justing the valve plu so as to allow gas to issue from any one of the burner pipes.
12. In a device of the character described consisting of a frame including a base forming aframe, a conduit at the upper end of the base and arranged longitudinally and in spaced relation above the base, one end of the conduit serving as an inlet, a valve casing supported on the base and arranged in communication with the opposite end of the conduit, a valve plug rotatably mounted in the casing and provided with a plurality of right angular ways the inner ends of which are positioned so that either may be arranged in communication with the conduit, a plurality of burner pipes extending horizontally from the outer ends of the ways so as to be positioned above the base and beneath the conduit and also provided with a varying number of burner openings, and means for adjusting the valve plug so as to allow the gas to issue from any one of the burner pipes.
