To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARMANI) l-I. PEYCKE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Supporting Brakes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for supporting brakes.
It has for its object to support brake mechanism, and especially brake beams in a manner to facilitate the braking and releasing action of the brake beam, and at the same time leveling the beam in an improved manner.
This and other objects are accomplished by providing, in combination, a brake beam, a bracket, and a pivotal connection between said bracket and the brake beam whereby the latter is free to oscillate.
The invention is illustrated on the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, parts being in section, of a railway car truck embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary side elevation of the same on an enlarged scale, parts being in section; and
Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the sus: pension arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The various novel features of my invention will be apparent from the following description and drawings and will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
By referring to the figures of the drawing, it will be noted that I have shown a car truck, including a spring plank 10, to which are secured hangers 11 for supporting a horizontally extending rigid safety bar 12, the ends of which underlie brake beams 13 for the purpose of preventing the brake beams from falling to the tracks in the event that the beams are accidentally disconnected from their normal hangings.
Brake beams of the truss type, herein shown as having a compression member 14: and tension member 15, have a tendency to tilt forwardly as normally hung by hangers which are connected to the brake heads which are secured to the ends of the brake beam. It is my intention to claim all modifications of the invention falling within the spirit and scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. In combination, a brake beam, a rigid safety bar therefor, a bracket adjustably connected to said safety bar, and a pivotal connection between said bracket and beam whereby the latter is supported.
2. In combination, a brake beam, a rigid safety bar therefor, a bracket connected to said safety bar, and a link pivotally connected to the bracket and to the beam whereby the latter is supported for a swinging movement.
3. In combination, a brake beam, a safety bar underlying the same, a bracket sup ported by the safety bar and extending laterally inwardly therefrom, and a link connecting the bracket and the brake beam whereby the latter is supported for a swinging movement.
