To all whom it may concern: f i i citizen of Norway,`residing at Trondhjem, Norway, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bitless Bridles, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to bitless bridles of the kind in which the levers connected with the reins operate in such a manner as to pull together the nose-strap and the cliilnstrap and thereby to exert a pressure upon the nose-bone of the horse.

In the accompanying drawing Figure l is a side elevation of the bridle, Fig. 2 shows on a greater scale a transverse section after the line 1--1 in Fig. l and Fig. 3 shows the bridle mounting with one part of the double rosette removed.

The mounting consists of two parts, n'rstly of a downwardly directed lever -a/ and secondly the double rosette -bb-. The lever -ais provided with one or more holes (l0-17) for the reins. Further this lever has a pin in for the nose st 1ap 2* and a pin En for the chin strap -4, these pins being placed diametrically on each side of a. bolt or pin -5- around which bolt the lever is pivoted.

The pins l and 3 are suitably placed in a plane perpendicular to the lever -a-, but of course they may be placed in an attitude somewhat out of the said plane.

The bolt -5 goes through the two halfs of the second part of the mounting, that is the double-rosette,-and is provided with a head -12 at one end and with a split pin 18- on the other end, thus securing the two parts of the double-rosette to each other in their center. The doublerosette is provided with extensions 6- to which the check strap -7-- is fastened through holes -13, these extensions being connected with each other through a bolt 8-, around which the two parts of the rosette may be pivoted when the bolt -5- is removed. In the nose-strap and the chinstrap are suitably either metal plates sewed in as shown at m14- on the chin-strap Fig. 3 or the whole end -15- of the strap may be made of metal as shown on the nose-strap in the same ligure, but these metal parts on the straps are of course not absolutely necessary. In all cases the straps or their metal parts are provided with oblong holes or slots -16- by means of which the straps are hung on the pins -1- and -3- of i 1 the f lever--a,` these 4pins beingA provided Be it known thatl, PETER RASMUSAAS, a

with suitable heads.

The ends of thereins are fastened in the lower holes -10- of` the lever -a-, it being understood that such a mounting as hereby described is hung up in the check strap at either side 0f the horses head.

lVhen the reins are pulled, the lower part of the lever c1- is moved in the direction of the arrow -10, whereby one of the pins --l-- is moved upward and the other one -3- is moved downward as indicated by the arrows -l1-. The consequence is that the nose and chin straps -4eand -2- iu usual manner are pulled somewhat together so that a pressure is exerted on the very sensitive nose of the horse.

When it is not necessary to exert a very large force upon the lever -a-, because the horse is easy to check, the reins may be attached in the upper hole 17 of each lever.

Having now described by invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A bitless bridle comprising a double rosette, a lever pivoted to the rosettes, a chin strap and a hose strap connected to said lever, and a rein connected to the level' in such manner that when a pull is exerted on the rein, the lever will cause the nose strap and chin strap to grip the nose of a horse.

2. A bitless bridle comprising a double rosette, a lever pivoted tothe rosettes, a chin strap and a nose strap connected to said lever at points diametrically op-posite each other and upon opposite sides of the pivot, an d 1'neans on said lever for adjustably recelvlng a rein..

3. A bitless bridle comprising a pair of spaced rosettes, a lever pivotally mounted between the rosettes, and means for connecting a chin strap and a nose strap to the lever at opposite sides of the pivot point thereof.

l. A bitless bridle comprising a double rosette, a bolt extending transversely through said rosettes, a lever pivoted on the bolt and disposed between the rosettes, extensions formed on the rosettes and formed with openings to receive a check strap, and means for connecting straps to the lever at opposite points and upon opposite sides of the bolt.
