Be it known that I, ALEX.ANDE R' POGO- v uowsxr, a, subject of the King of Great Britain, residin at Lulomar, Oarrington Road, Randwic near Sydney, in the State of New South Wales, and Commonwealth of Australia, have invented-a new and useful Improved Horn for Talking-Machines,
Especially Ca'binet Talking-Machines, of
whlch the following is a specification.
This invention refers to those horns of talking machines which are generally inclosed in cabinet work and from which issue the sounds produced by the hidden mechanism of such machines and it relates to the peculiar construction of horn whereby a clearer, more sonorous and more generally effective enunciationof the sound produce ing is obtained. v
4 This improved horn for talking machines especiall cabinet talking machines is of rectangu ar cross section,- though any section in'shape approximating rectangular might more or less eflicientlyserve. Two of the walls (preferably-theside walls) of this rectangular section opposite to one another have a very gradual or fine taper and the other two adJoining walls (preferably the top and bottom walls) have a larger or blunter taper both tapers terminating where all the walls widen out to form a flaring exitor mouth. The two walls which have Y 'the lesser taper (thepreferential side walls) are straight or flat but the edges of these walls are curved to adapt them. to the fitting thereto of, the other walls (or preferential top and bottom walls) which are waved or producing'deviceand its mouth whichup-- turn very. gradually tapers to its connectionjat the in device fiat though two or three,- undulations in two opposite of the horn walls very effecorifiee from the sound productively carry out theintent and object of this invention 0110' or-more than two or three such undulations may more orless effectively similarly functioni' And though compareiiveiylonz emma-water gy fii9li' hs li9ih p s m i mn t- Patented Sept. 2,1919. satisfactory utilized.
But in order yet Sh r s waits mi htifbe,
that this inventioumay easily 'carried into practical, effect theiat present best known construction of this-im- The horn is made of side walls 5 whose edges'are curved as at 4. The top and bot machines especially 3 a perspective view of thesame complete' Figures 1 and-:2 are .tom walls 6v are waved or have undulations corresponding to said curves of the side wallet and the whole makes-up into 'a peculiarly tapered vboxing 5, as phrticularly shown in Fig.- 3, having undulatr' ing to. and bottom walls and reaching from the in st 7 (where it is fixed by flange 8 to the flared mouth or outlet 9 where it is appropriately fixed tov the cabinet'work. The Waves 'orundulations he top wall as commencing at point a'ofthe all the walls widen out to formthe flared! ,exit or mouth. 9 and in; the "bottom 'wall" the respective corres ndilkg hills and hole;
lows aremarked a; ,-0 and c The curves of the undulations-shown i'nfi the drawing are shown somewhat slightly exaggeratedas to height and depth butthese 7 approximate sufficiently to practical require.-
. ments to enable. one skilled in, the art 1w 1 which this invention appertains to decidewhat undulations in "the walls willjserve his desired object in regardto sonority and enunciation; It will-be observed thatleach= rlse in 'one"iif the undulating wallsisai't ranged opposite a corresponding rise in the opposite wall but that said rise in the first wall terminates short of" the line' of the falls i in the second wall, so thatthe. space through i the center of the horn is left clear aI LdFu .0bstructed.-
. What I claim, and diatomby 1k ,e
..tersf Patent of .the' United =S tates, is
a hers.

.In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
