WALL-FITTING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 2, 1919.
Application filed September 19, 1916. Serial No. 120,987.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LnoN B. Ynrsnn and ARTHUR I. FIsOHER, citizens of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wall-Fittings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to a' fitting designed more especially as a wall connection for a combination hot and cold water cook or faucet for recess or corner bath-tubs, but the fitting is also more or less generally adaptable for use in or with kitchen and slop sinks, laundry trays, wall showers, shampoo cocks and the like, all substantially as shown and described herein and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawin s Figure 1 is a front elevation of what maylie regarded as a bath-tub installation, and Fig. '2 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of either Fig. 1 or Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of one of the fitting members complete, two such members being required to complete the installation.
Modern architecture for hotels and public houses especially, and in some instances in private dwellings, has come to look with favor on the plan of concealin the water supply pipes in the walls of t e building and providing for connections to be made directly therewith through the wall, but it has been found that in cases wherein hot and cold water pipes are run parallel the ipes are liable to be spaced apart at diferent widths from floor vto floor and in different buildings, and hence a fitting or fixture which comes to such conditions must be adapted to accommodate itself to such different widths or it cannot be used.
cases where the nip ples for making connections may come at different elevations horizontally. Hence the necessity of having fittings that can be set into any and all such varying condition as they may arise, and have the means of adaptation in themselves by ad ustment or otherwise.
To these ends the present invention comprises a fitting a which meets the needs of the conditions described and which otherwise is adapted to be used with the usual water cook a and which may be of the present or any other suitable design or style and provided with hand controlled valves as usual. The said fittings are preferably shaped as shown but modifications thereof may be made and come within'the present invention, as is obvious. However, the present form or shape has special advantages in that the fitting is made in a single piece and yet can be adapted to any irregularities in positions of the pipes that are likely to arise and without special adjustments of parts or other requirements to make the necessary connections with said pipes or the so-called cook or body 0. In addition to this the said fitting is provided with means by which the water can easily be shut off by an unskilled plerson when such action becomes necessary.
ach fitting, therefore, has a body portion 2 provided with an internal thread at its inner end, in this instance, adapted to be coupled with the supply pipe at by means of a nipple 3 or the equlvalent thereof, and a right an led tubular elbow or arm 4 is cast integral with the body and coupled with the cock 0 by a nut 5 as seen in Fig. 4. The said nut engages a screw collar 8 on the extremity of the elbow so union ma be effected with the cock, and a like rotation of the fitting axially may also occur at nipple 3 which connects by a screw joint with the supply ipe d that a rotatable It will also be seen 1; at the body 2 has an A. wrench or tool to turn the same, but which end ordinarily is covered by a cap 8 screwed onto the end of the EaOklIIghIIIut n engaged.
on the end of said ody. this instance also a thimble 9 is inserted in the end of said body in which the said stem has screw threaded adjustment/and thus any one who has a key can easil shut off the water and detach the cock 0. This location of the said elbow on' the body of the fitting brings the same out away from the wall on into con-.
venientposition for use with a bath tub or sink, but it will be observed that the connection is wholly independentof the tub or sink and supported exclusively from the ternal screw threads on body '2 serves to" clamp the fitting in place upon the Wall.
Each fitting a is thus shown to be rotatable and in the rotation the arms 4 will occupy difl'erent positions in respect to a horizontal plane according to the distance .or space between the supply pipes in the wall and the "respective elevations of the connections with the said'pipes, 'and no adjustment of any kind is required for the various positions the fitting ma take except the rotation of the fitting godily and as a whole.
What I claim is:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a hot and cold water cock or faucet and two fittings rotatablyconnected therewith and eachcomprising a tubular body internally threaded at its inner .end to establish a rotatable connection with a supply pipe and externally threaded to receive a screw-flange for clamping the fitting adjustably backand forth upona wall and provided internally with a valve seat and an extension front of said seat, a valve adapted to said seat having an operating stem extending through the said front extension and packed therein and a screw cap for said front end inclosingthe end of the said stem, and each of said bodies having a tubular elbow opening into the same immediately in front of said valve seat and the outer terminals of said elbows parallel to said'body-andhaving rotatable connection with said cock faucet. v
2. As a new article of manufacture, a hot [and cold water cook or faucet and two fittings rotatably connected therewith and each comprising a tubular body internally threaded at its inner end to establish a rotatable connection with a supply pipe and externally threaded to receive a screwflange for clamping the fitting adjustably back and forth upon a wall and provided'in- .ternally with a valve seat and an extension- In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures in presence of witnesses.
