WILLIAM A. EMMERSON, OF CHATTANOOGA, OKLAHOMA.
OIL-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 26, 1919.
Application filed November 21, 1917. Serial No. 203,218.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. EMMnR- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chattanooga, in the county of Comanche and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil- Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements 1n oil stoves and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character which will evenly distribute the heat so that the entire receptacle or the like being heated will receive an even amount of heat.
Another object of this invention is to provide a chimney protector that supports the heat distributer and protects the chimney from ingredients boiling over when cooking or heating the same and wh ch is so arranged that it will permit the chimney to be raised for lighting the burner.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a Wind break which will prevent side drafts thereby obviating the heat from the burner from being blown to one side of the receptacle or the like being heated.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of an oil stove of the above stated character which shall besimple, durable and efficient and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
l/Vith these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in cer tain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my 1nvention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of an oil stove constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of the same,
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line .33 of Fig. 2 illustrating the heat distributer.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates as an entirety a supporting structure of a stove consisting of a base 2 having vertical side walls 3 which support a top wall 4 provided with the usual opening for permitting the heat from the burner to pass against a receptacle supported by the top wall. The opening in the top wall 1 is provided with an annular protecting member 5 which has its edges bent to engage the top and bottom faces of the top wall 41 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2.
A burner 6 is mounted upon the bottom wall 2 and has the usual wick 7 surrounded by a chimney 8 which is supported by brackets 9 carried by the burner. The burner 6 is supplied with fuel such as kerosene or the like from a reservoir 10 by way of the feed pipe 11.
A chimney protector 12 is secured to the upper end of the chimney 8 and has its periphery bent downwardly to form an annular flange 13 that abuts a wind break 14. The wind break 14 is of cylindrical formation and extends upwardly from the pro tector 12 to the opening in the top wall 1- of the frame of the stove and has mounted upon its upper end the usual grate 15 for supporting the receptacle or the like to be heated by the burner.
A bracket 16 is secured to the protector 12 and has secured thereto a frusto-conical heat distributer 17 that is disposed over the chimney in spaced relation thereto for the purpose of distributing the heat from the burner evenly about a receptacle or the like placed upon the grate 15.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be noted that means has been provided for protecting the chimney of the burner from ingredients boiling over by the member 12 which also cooperates with the wind break 1 L, preventing side draft to the burner which obviates the danger of the heat from the burner being blown to one side of the receptacle placed upon the grate. It will also be noted that the chimney can be readily raised and lowered for the purpose of lighting the wick 7 as the protector 12 slides freely within the wind break 14.
WVhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my inventionmvhat I claim is:
An oil stove including a base carrying a burner and a top having an opening closed byagratabrackets on said burner, a chimney carried by said brackets and terminating short of the top, a cylindrical wind break secured to the grate and extending to a point below .the upper end of the chimney and ofa' diameter" greater than that of said chimney, a circular protector having an opening secured to the upper end of said .copies of this patent maybe obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Washington, 1).05
flange having contact with the inner face (of ,the windsbrea'k, :to permit the chlmney to have upward and downward movement within said wind break,. and a conical deflector secured to the protector and disposed overthehchimney in spaced relation to the upper end thereof.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. 1
