Description

L. E. F. WACHTER,
WATCH.
APPLICATION FILED MAY I3. 1919.
Patented Aug. 26, 1919.
LOUISE. F. WACHTER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
\VATOH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 2%,
Application filed May 13, 1919. Serial No. 296,774.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs E. F. WAGHTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in watch bows, and also to the means of pivoting the watch bow to the pendant, and the principal object of my invention is to produce a construction in which the winding stem of a watch is more easily accessible when the bow is turned down than with the ordinary construction, and also to provide that the body of the bow shall extend in substantially the plane of the axis of the pendant when the bow is in its extended position;
A further object of my invention is to provide a construction in which the bow may be caused to lie fiat against the back of the case of a watch when turned back.
A further object of the invention is to provide a form of bow which will not, if its spring tension is too strong, crush in the sides of the crown portion of the pendant, due to the fact that the portion of the pendant between the ends of the bow can be and preferably is made solid.
I With the foregoing and other objects in view my invention consists in certain constructions, aITangements and combination of parts, several forms of which will be first described in connection with the accompanying drawing, and then the invention particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing wherein the same part is designated by the same reference numeral wherever it occurs,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the back of a watch fitted with one form of my invention;
Fig. 2 is an edge view of the construc tion shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, showing however the bow folded back and resting against the back case of the watch;
Fig. 4 is a view illustrating a modified shape of bow, and a modified form of lug on the pendant to which the bow is pivoted.
Fig. 5 is an edge view of the construction shown in Fig. 4;
. Fig. (i'is a partial section of another form of construction in which the bow is pivoted to the lug on the pendant by a. pivot pin ex tending through both the lug and the ends Fig. 9 is a sectional top view of the construction shown in Fig. 8.
10 designates an ordinary watch ease pro vided with a pendant 11 of any ordinary or desired construction and 12 indicates the ordinary winding stem. The pendant 11 in accordance with my invention is pro vided with a" projecting lug on the side ad-- '"jacent to the back of the watch, as best shown in Fig. 1, which lug may be of various forms, as illustrated in the various ures. In Figs. 1 and 2 this lug is indicated by 13, and is generally cylindrical. in. the form shown in Figs. l and 5 this lug is designated at 14, and is shown generally rectangular. In Fig. 6 the lug is indicated at 15, and is generally rectangular but mounted upon a sleeve 16 surrounding the pendant 11. In Figs. 8 and 9 the lug is shown as formed integral with the pendant and of general cylindrical outline, and is indicated by the numeral 16.
18 designates a bow the body portion of which may have any desired contour, that shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 being generally heart shape with the outer end 19 slightly bent to stand up from the back of the case when the bow is folded down. as indicated in Fig. 3. In the remaining figures the bow is of the general circular outline most commonly employed.
In accordance with my invention the end portions of thebow are bent at 20 so that the ends extend at substantially a right angle to the plane of the body portion of thebow. The length of the turned up end portion is such that when the ends are pivoted in the lugs on the pendant the body portion of the bow will be in substantially the plane of the axis of the pendant when the bow is in its extended position.
In the form of construction shown in 1 to 5 inclusive the ends of the bow simply snap into depressions in the ends of the lugs'13 and 14-. In the form shown in Figs. 6 to 9 inclusive however a hole is drilled through the ends of the bow and the blocks 15 or 17 and a pin passed. through the open ings and riveted at its ends. By this con from the spirit of my invention, and I there fore do not intend to limit myself to the specific form shown and described.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination'with a pendant, of a bow pivoted to the pendant at a point out side the plane of the axis of the pendant, the ends of the bow being so extended that the body portion thereof is in substantially the plane of the axis of the pendant when the bow is in its extended position.
2. .The combination with a pendant, of a bow pivoted to the pendant at a point outside the plane of the axis of the pendant Gopies o this patent may be obtained for with the ends of thebow extending at an angle to the plane of the body portion thereof.
3. The combination with a pendant provided with a lug on one side thereof, of a bow having its ends extending at an angle to the plane of the body portion thereof and pivoted to said lug.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a watch bow having its ends extending at an angle to the plane of the body portion thereof.
5. As a new article of manufacture, a watch how having its ends extending at substantially a right angle to the plane of the body portion thereof.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
