CURTAIN-BRACKET.
Application filed November 21, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VINCENT 'Wnsrnn- VELT, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Bloomingdale, in the county of assaic and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ourtain-Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shade and curtain brackets and aims to provide means for adjustably securing curtain and shade brackets in position upon a window frame.
An object of the present invention is to provide means whereby the shade bracket may be adjustably and removably secured upon a suitable base plate, (adapted to be socured upon a window frame,) in a manner to adjustably and removably secure at ourtain bracket upon said plate, thereby permitting of a quick and convenient adjustment of one or both brackets. I
Another object is to provide means for positively holding the brackets against accidental movement, which consists in providing grooves having inclined walls for the reception of securing nuts, which latter are prevented from turning and wedged into position by said walls, these walls also providing a groove upon the opposite or other face of the base plate to receive an arm carried by the curtain bracket.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a face view of a combined shade and curtain support constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is an end view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional Fig. 4 is detail perspective view base plate;
Fig. 5 is a similar view 01 the curtain bracket; and
Fig. 6 is a ing ends.
Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the base plate of the support is shown at 10. This plate-1s preterably stamped from sheet metal and is provided with longitudinally disposed spaced parallel grooves 11, which are surrounded by view of the like view of one of the secur- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented A11 19, 1919.
Serial No. 263,539.
The opposed flanges 12 of the grooves 11, provide guides upon the outer face of the base plate which is offset from the base of the plate 10, so that a relatively shallow groove is formed. This groove is adapted to receive a right angularly disposed arm 20, carried by the curtain bracket 21. This bracket is preferably formed of a base of L- shaped metal, one arm of which provides the arm 20 and the offset arm is bent to form a seat 22 for the reception of the curtain pole. The arm 20 is placed within the groove 19 and held in adjusted position therein through the medium of the shade bracket 17, the base 16 of which extends transversely across the groove in contact with the arm 20.
This provides for the quick and convenient adjustment of either one or both brackets, as by loosening the screws 15 the bracket 17 may be moved longitudinally of the base plate, of the bracket 21 similarly moved.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is reserved to herein make such changes.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is I 1. A shade and curtain support comprising a base plate having longitudinally disposed parallel grooves, outwardly extending inclined flanges surrounding said grooves to define longitudinal adjusting seats, a shade bracket contacting with the outer edges of the inclined flanges, threaded fastening devices engageable with said bracket, nuts threaded upon said device, inclined edges for said nuts, said edges being adapted for contact with the inclined flanges, whereby the nuts are wedged into the adjusting seats, a curtain bracket and means whereby the shade bracket Will hold the curtain bracket upon the base plate.
2. A shade and curtain support comprising a base plate having longitudinally dis posed parallel spaced grooves, outwardly inclined flanges surrounding said grooves and defining a longitudinally disposed adjusting 10' seat between the opposed flanges of opposite grooves, a curtain bracket, a right a-ngularly 7 sitioned transversely across said seat in contact with the right angular arm of the curtain bracket and means for removably securing the shade bracket to the support.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature. VIN GEN T WESTERVELT.
