Application filed March 12, 1917. Serial No. 154,283.
nut locks and consists in the novelv details Y of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is Vto provide a simple, inexpensive and efficient nut lock ing washer constructed of a single piece of flexible sheet metal and having means associated therewith adapted to engage the sides of the beam or tie with which the bolt is in engagement, and a portion of the washer having an extension thereon adapted to engage the sides of a nut to lock the latter against rotation.
Other improvements and novel details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the apparatus will be brought out more in detail in the description to follow, which, for a clear understand ing of the invention, should be considered l in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, and wherein is disclosed, for the purpose of illustration, convenient and satisfactory embodiments of the invention. It is to be noted, in this connection, that minor changes in the construcion and arrangement in the various parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the principle of Y operation of the various parts.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention as applied;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, the beam to which the same is attached being in section;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my invention showing the same on its end;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of another modification,
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings, and more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, wherein my invention is shown applied to a beam designated B through which is passed a bolt 10 having the usual enlarged and squared head portion 11.
The nut lock of ,vided with a longitudinally extending cutout portion 13. Said cut-out portion provides a pair of arm members, the extremities of which are adapted to be bent downwardly as indicated at 14 and 15 into engagement with the sides of the beam or other member toV be clamped. The side 16 opposite the cut-out portion is bent laterally upward into engagement withv the head of the bolt member Y what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: y
A device of the character described comprising a metal strip having a longitudii nally extending cut out portion for a major portion of its length, the closed endv ofthe cutout portion being rounded to snugly embrace substantially one half of a bolt, the end opposite the rounded end portion of said strip being bent outwardly at right angles to engage with a nut when carriedbyv a bolt, and a pair of arms formed by the cut out portion and adapted to be bent at right angles to said strip in adirection opposite the other right angular bent portion for a purpose specified. f Y
- In testimony whereof` I aiiix my signature hereto.
