To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RUDOLPH MosKowITz, a citizen of the TJnited States, and residing at Detroit.I in the county` of l/Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and' Improved Toy, of whichthe following is a specication.

The object of this inventionis tolprovide a toy which will stimulate the imagination and at the same time furnish `an outlet for the animal spirits of young boys, by supplying a device which can be operated in the same manner as` a rocking chair or rocking horse. It consists in a base on which is pivotally mounted a body in the form of a conventional model of an aeroplane having a rotor at its front end, means being provided for causing the rotor to turn as the body is rocked back and forth on its pivot. It also consists in forming the body with a seat in which the person using the toy may be seated. It further consists in the details of construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing and particularly pointed out in the claims. 1

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of this toy, a part of the upper plane being broken away to show the seat. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the front end of the body of the toy. Fig. 3 is a detail of the rotor operating device on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.

This toy consists of a base, preferably formed of two side bars 1 and two cross bars 2. A bar 3, preferably of metal supplies the pivot for the movable frame consisting of side pieces 4f, cross pieces 5 and posts 6 that support the body 7, preferably having the fish shaped form of the fuselage of an aeroplane. This body is preferably formed with an opening 8 and a seat 9 for a passenger, and the parts are preferably so proportioned that when a person is seated in the body, the device is substantially balanced on the pivot 3.

Planes or wings 10 and 11 are mounted on the body as shown and may be connected and positioned by the braces 13 and stays 14. When the body is rocked on the bar 3, the resistance to the air by the wings will substantially prevent too sudden movements of the body and so prevent the device from being pounded to pieces by too violent rockmgs.

Mounted inthe front end 15 of the body and in a post 1G therein, is a shaft 17 on the front end of which is a rotor, `preferably a double bladed member 1S which may be in thefform of a tractor screw. A spring 19 connects to the front cross bar 2 and a flexible member, preferably a strap or cable 20, extends around the pulley 22-011. this shaft `17 from this spring to the cross bar 2. I have found that Vwhen the front end of the body and with it the shaft 17 is raised, the flexible member 2O will cause the shaft to rotate, the farther end of the strap being held taut by the spring, but when this end of the body tips down, the pulling end of the fiexible member slacks up and the spring usually pulls the flexible member without turning the shaft. Thus the rotor will usually continue to turn in one direction giving the illusion of a constantly rotating tractor screw. In order that this toy may be readily moved from place to place, I may mount the base on the small "wheels or casters 24- which may be of any desired construction.

Because of the area of the wings and of the tail 25, the rocking movement of the body will be restrained and slow, avoiding sudden jars which would result from violent stopping of the rocking parts at the ends of their movements.

While the general design of this structure is substantially necessary to embody my invention, the details and proportions may all be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the following claims.

I claim:

l. In a toy, the combination of a base, a frame pivotally mounted on the base, a hollow fish-shaped body supported by the frame and adapted to swing with the frame in a vertical plane passing longitudinally through the body, said body having a seat in its interior, and laterally extending wings and a flat substantially horizontal tail on said body to force slow even movement of the body and frame by reason of the resistanceof the air.

2. In a toy, the combination of a base, a hollow body pivotally mounted on the base, wings extending laterally from the body,` and a substantially horizontal plane at that end of the body which is farthest from its pivot to force slow even movement of the body by reason of the resistance of the air.

3. In a toy, the combination of a base, a

frame pivotally mounted on the base, a hollow body supported by the frame, a shaft rotatably mounted in the front end of the body, a rotor on the front end of the shaft, and means connected to the base for turning said shaft.

4:. 5. ln a toy, the combination of a base, a hollow fish-shaped body pivotally mounted thereon, a shaft rotatably mounted in the front end of the body, a rotor on the front end of the shaft, means connected to the base for turning the shaft, laterally extending transverse Wings mounted on Said body intermediate its ends, and a tail mounted on the rear end ofsaid body, said Wings and tail serving' to restrain the rocking moveyments of said body.
