Be it known t at I, ToM YEN F001;,- a citizen of the United States, resi'din at Mesa, in the county of-Maricopa and tate of Arizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Hinges, of

which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in spring hinges. r i a The object of the invention is to provide spring hinges of the type known on the market as FThe King and others with simple" and efiicient means for securing themto the door and its jamb in connection with which the hinge is to be used to insure their retention in operative position.

Withjthe foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description I proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the embodiment illustrated, the hinge constituting) the invention is shown applied to a door and its jamb J and comprises two plates. 1 and 2 connected by a pintle 1 3 presently to be described, and having smooth apertures for securing them respectively to the jamb and to the door.

Theplate 2 has spring barrels 8 and 9 at position shown in Figs. 1 and 2'. The plate 2 is then secured to the door D in a similar manner, plate 10 lying against the edge of the door which is to be hinged, and plate 2 against its outer face, so that the fastening screws which attach

1 and 10 to the door extend in planes at right angles to each other, and thereby securely hold the plate engaged with the door. The door is then I placed in position with the barrels 8 and 9 of its hinge member 2 alined with the barrel 3 of the jamb carrying hinge member 1. When these parts are so positioned the apertured ears 7 of plate 2 lap the ears 4 of plate 1 and the pintle 13 is passed through the apertures therein. this connecting the door hingedly to the 'jamb, and preventing all danger of the hinge members becoming detached. h I

A coiled spring 12 is mounted in the registering barrels 8, 3 and 9 with its ends secured sothat the spring will exert its tension to normally close the door.

The foregoing description and the drawings have reference to what may be considered the preferred or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, ma-

terials, dimensions, etc, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the claimed invention.

Havin thus fully described my invention, what I cfiiim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
