My inventionrelates to improvements in printing and marking apparatus and has therein to the accompanying particular referenceto a holder adapted for:

3 indicates a suitable weighted member which may be formed of cast iron more or less solid and 4 is a standard projecting upwardly therefrom and providing a split socket at the top to receive the arm 5, said split socket having a suitable spring such as 6 for normally separating the same to allow the arm 5 to slide therethrough. 7 indicates a suitable hand wheel or other device for drawing the split socket tightly upon the bar or tube 5 after the same has been adjusted, and 8 indicates a suitable cap for closing the end of the tube.

9 indicates another split socket holder mounted upon the opposite end of the tube 5 and also provided with a suitable wheel or other device 10 for closing the jaws 11-12 against the action of the spring 13 to retain the tube 14 after the same has been adjusted, the upper end of the tube 14 having a suitable cap 15 into which may be suitably secured a rod 16 to serve as a support or back for the printing film when the same is thrown up off the work as hereinafter more fully described, and said support or rod 16 may of course be removably secured to the cap 15 as by screw threads or other suitable means.

the bar 18 at the opposit-e ends of which is secured the usual hinge and protractor bearings 19-20 which are of conventional form wellknown in the art. i i

The weightedibase 3 may be cut away at 21 to allow clearance for the back of the bracket 17 and tube 14 if desired, and it may also be cut awayas indicated at 22-23 to allow clearance for the hinges 19-20 if desired, and 24-25 indicate the heads of suitablepointed screws having nuts 26-27 forlocking samein position. The points of these screws indicated at 28-29 are adapted to slightly penetrate the surfaceupon which the weighted member 3 is used if desired as i an additional precaution against the shifting of theweighted base 3.

The hinge or protractor members 19-20 are of courseprovided with the usual protractor screws 30-31 for the lateral adjustment of the frame bar 32 and one of said hinge or protractor members is also provided with the usual screw 33 for the lateral adjustment of said frame bar 32, and 34-35 indicate suitable binding screws for retaining the hinge or protractor members 19-20 to the bar 18. These hinge or protractor members are provided with the usual pintles 36-37 for engaging the recesses in the brackets 38-39 which are in turn secured upon the frame bar 3-2 by the wing-nuts 40-41, the ends of said brackets 38-39 having binding pieces 42-43 through which said wing-headed screws 40-41 pass when engaging the brackets 38-39. By this arrangement the frame bar 32 is readily held by the brackets 38-39 after the same have been once a-djusted and secured between the pintles 36-37 the latter of which is resiliently projected in the usual manner.

Referring now more particularly to Fig. 3 it will be observed that upon the frame bar 32 is secured the bearing 44 which is provided with grooves 45-46 either of which may be engaged by the clamps 47-48 having offsets 49-50 at the back penetrated by the screws 51-52 and by which the clamps 47-48 are drawn inwardly, the other ends 53-54 engaging the frame 55 of the printing film 56 thereby securely holding the same in position for use.

When a circularly framed film such as 57 shown to better advantage in Fig. 2, is to be used, the slots 46 of the bearing 44 may be used instead of the slots 45 for the clamps 47-48 as shown, and in this case an addisition it will remain for ordinary use without shifting. Theprinting film secured by itsseveralbrackets may then be thrown up upon the pintle bearings 36-37 the front edge of the frame resting against the supporting bar 16 in which position it may be inked or prepared for use, after which it may be dropped down in position over the workas shown in Fig. 1 and applied in the usual well known manner.

Of course it will be understood that various modifications may be made in the con' struction and arrangement of parts Without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
