Patented July 252, acre.
Application filed .Tanuary 26, 1917, Serial No. 144,717. Renewed Aprilt, 1919. Serial No. 287,927.
d subject of the Kaiser of Germany, residing at Ludlow, in the county of Kenton and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Receptacle- Closures, of which the. following is a specification. I
This invention relates to closures for bot tles, cans and like receptacles, "and aims to provide a'cap designed to cooperate with the mouth of the receptacle to permit said cap to moved from the receptacle, and when applied securely held in position and providing an air-tight closure.
claimed.
The nature and advantages of the inven tion will bebetter understood when the following detail description'is read in. connection with the accompanying drawing, the
invention residing in the construction, comblnatlon and arrangement of parts as In the drawing formingpart of this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a re ceptacle with the cap removed.
Fig. 2 is. a detail view of the cap partly in section. i v
'Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken through the receptacle with the cap positioned thereon, and Fig. 4 is, a detail view.
with a can is sufiiciently characteristic of its utility and admirably illustrates theinven.
i invention is applicable to otherforms of re 'ceptacl'es, and that such general application is contemplated by the claim. Referring to the drawing in detail 10 inolicates a can or other receptacle, and 11 the neck or mouth thereoflwhich latter is preferably tapered. The neck 11 is provided atits opposite sides with bayonet grooves, the vertical branches 12 of which are adapted to receive projections carried by the cap shownin Fig. 2, for locking the cap in posi- 'tion and with a. view of providing an a1r-' tight closure.
For this reason the depered as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the grooves.
12 are formed to rovide an uninterrupted circumference at t e mouth as shown.
In practice the projections 16 enter the VGItlCZLl branches 12 of the bayonet grooves formed in the neck, upon the initial application of the cap to the receptacle. When the cap has been adjusted a predetermined dis tance, upon the neck 11, the cap is given a slight turn in the proper direction to niove the projections 16 into the laterally disposed branches 12 of said groove wherebythe cap is effectively locked upon the receptacle. The laterally disposed branches 12 of said grooves are slightly inclined to effectivelydraw the closure to a full closed position with a view of providing an air-tight connection between the closure and the receptacle.
- the invention will be readily apparent I de- The use of the invention in connectionsire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction and arrangement of parts herein shown and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of. what is 'a cap, a resilient annulus secured within the cap adjacent its lower end, and ofi'set prowa rdly of said cap-andadapted to be fitted in said grooves to hold the cap in position on the neck. i
In testimony whcreof I afiix my signature.
ERNEST REINFELD.
