I d) L CHARLES F. WILLARD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, T0 L-W-F ENGINEERING COMPANY, INC., OF COLLEGE POINT, LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK,
A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
GUY-WIRE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 22, 1919.
APDlicetion filed October 1a, 1916. Serial No. 126,284.
ing had therein to the accompanying draw- My invention relates to improvements in attachments for aeroplanes and more particularly has reference to means in combination therewith for securing guy wires in such a manner as to allow for the shifting of the same due to distortion and other strains upon the machine.
In the accompanying drawi I have illustrated in the figure an applicatlon of my invention as applied to the guy wire of an aeroplane where it is attached at the base of a strut support.
The base plate of the strut support is indicated by the reference character 2 and is provided with flanges or projections such-as 3, upon which may be pivotally mounted a universal coupling, preferably of the form indicated by the reference character 4, the same being secured to the lug 3 by the pin 5 as shown. -At the other end of the coupling 4 a turn buckle or wire terminal such as 6 may be secured by a pin such as 7. In this way either angle of movement of the guy wire will be accommodated upon either of the pins 5 or 7 thus preventing undue strain or abrasion.
copies of this patent may be obtained for Of course it will be understood that various modifications and changes may be made in the'oonstruction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed:
I claim 1. Means for fastening the guy wire of an aeroplane comprising a base plate and a lug projecting therefrom, a universal coupling pivotally mounted thereon, said universal coupling comprising a forked member at one end providing pivotal bearing and a member at right angles thereto at the other end, also providing pivotal bearing.
A guy wire attachment comprisin a base plate having an upturned lug, a for ed member inclosing said lug and pivoted thereto, and a Wire terminal having a forked end pivoted to said forked member on an axis at right angles to the axis of said first mentioned pivot.
3. A guy wire attachment comprising a base plate, a member pivoted thereto, and a wire securing member pivoted to said first mentioned member substantially at right angles to the pivot of'said first mentioned member.
In testimony whereof I'hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES F. WILLARD.
