RADIATOR FOOT-REST.

The object of my inventioniis to provide a foot rest having means for mounting it on a radiator with provision foradjusting it aXially to adapt it for radiator sections of differentsizes and shape and for diierentlocations of the radiator.
The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawing, 2 represents a radiator of ordinary construction. 3 represents a bolt or rod, square in cross section, having a head 4 at one end. A bar 5, preferably in the form of a channel, is loosely mounted on the end ofthe bolt to contact with the inner face of adjoining radiator sections and be held against the same by the head 4. The bolt 3 has a threaded end 6 and a plate 7 is mounted thereon to move back and forth toward and from the bar 5. A shank 8 has a central orifice 9 to receive the outer end of the bolt andV is interiorly threaded at 10 to engage the threads of the bolt. The outer end of the shank has a ball V11 formed thereon having a slot 12 to receive a screw driver for the purpose of obtaining the desired adjustment to clamp the adjacent sections of the radiator between the plate 7 and the bar 5. When these sections are clamped, as indicated in Fig. 8, the inner end of the bracket 8 will be Specification of Letters Patent.

I prefer to provide two of these bolts and their attachments, located a suitable distance apart on the radiator and corresponding substantially in shape and size, each Shank having a substantially spherical ball at its outer end that is adapted to slip into thev tube 13 with the shank slidable in a slot 14 in the inner wall of the tube. At each end of the tube is a head 15 provided with a neck 16 to fit snugly into the open end of the tube andbe Secured therein by a set screw 17. These heads may be suitably finished, as well as the tube and the shank, to present a neat, ornamental appearance on the radiator.
The balls 11 it snugly within the tube and cannot be separated therefrom until one of the vheads 15 has been removed. IVhenever desired, the tube may be moved -lemgthwise on the balls to change the position of the rest with respect to the radiator and whenever desired, the Shanks may be loosened and their position changed to raise or lower them on the sections and vary the height of the rest or move them with the rest to another position on the radiator. j
By providing the bolt 3 preferably Square in cross section, I am able to tilt the bar 5 up to a vertical position and insert it between the adjoining sections of the radiator and then turn it down to its horizontal clamping position. The plates 7 may then be seated against the outer face of the sections and clamped by means of the Shanks 8.
The bar 5 is loosely mounted on the bolt 3 and may adjust itself to the uneven surface of the radiator sections and may also be readily detached from the bolt for conven ience in packing.
A device of this kind is extremely rigid, as the double bearings of the shank on the sections serve to hold them very firmly, and the manner of supporting the tubular rest on the Shanks insures a very firm, substantial Support for the feet and at the same time makes provision for convenient endwise adjustment of the tube whenever desired.
The device may be applied to any style and size of radiator and for a long rest a greater number of Shanks may be used.
In various ways the details of construction herein shown and described may be modified and still be within the scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
l. A radiator foot rest comprising bolts having shanks and heads at the inner ends thereof, bars loosely mounted on said inner ends to bear` on the inner faces of the radiator sections and free to slide and tilt thereon to fit the inequalities of the radiator sections, said bolts projecting outwardly between the radiator sections and having threaded outer ends, plates loosely mounted on said bolts to bear on the outer faces of said sections and shanks interiorly threaded to receive the threaded ends of said bolts for clamping said plates and bars against the inner and outer faces of said sections, and a foot rail carried by said shanks-` 2. A radiator foot rest comprising bolts having Shanks, polygonal in cross section and heads at the inner ends of said shanks, bars loosely mounted on said shanks for bearing on the inner faces of the radiator sections and accommodating themselves to the inequalities thereof, the outer ends of said bolts being threaded and projecting between the radiator sections, plates loosely mounted on said .bolts to bear on the outer faces of said sections, and shanks interiorly threaded to receive the threaded ends of said bolts for clamping said plates and `'bars' against the innerand outer faces of said sections, and a foot rail carried by said Shanks.`
