To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES F. Monnow, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Mount Vernon, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottles which camiot be refilled and is to prevent the use of the bottle which has contained a reliable brand of goods or liquids for a spurious article and it consists of a valve, preferably a ball, which is seated when the bottle is in its upright position but is caught in the cup of a perforated plug when the bottle is inverted to pour out its contents, the parts being few and simple and readily operable, as will be more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 shows the exterior appearance of the improved bottle.

Fig. 4 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 5 is a sectional View of the modified form of a plug.
As shown in Fig. 1 the bottle is of ordinary appearance and the only difierence in the interior structure is that the throat 10 is tapering and contracted at its lower end 11 and an annular groove 12 is formed near the upper end to contain the outer edges of the packing ring 13.
The neck 14 of the bottle is cylindrical on the outside and the throat is contracted to form a seat for the valve 15 which is inserted after the bottle is filled and is free to run down the neck when the bottle is inverted.
After the bottle is filled and the ball 15 dropped into place the plu 16 carrying in an outer groove 17 the pac 'ng ring 13, is inserted in the mouth 18 of the bottle and pushed down until the compressed ring 13 springs into the groove 12, the mouth being slightly contracted to cause the compression of the ring before the plug is finally seated so that the latter may be retained to close the valve 15.

19 through it at its edge and they curve slightly toward the center on the inside, or incline as shown in Fig. 5, the deflection being in the direction of the cup 20 on the under side of the plug to prevent the insertion of wires or pins to manipulate the ball and prevent the operation of the device.
The cup 20 also serves to contain the ball at a central point when the bottle is inverted so that the escape of the liquid through the perforations 19 is not interfered with, and the space around the cup is so limited that the ball readily seats itself in the cup and the exit of the liquid and the entrance of the air are easily effected on account of the many perforations. Three or four are shaped slots may be made around the plug for the same purpose.
The plug and the ball may both be made from glass or porcelain and the ring may be depended upon to afi'ord a water tight joint and as a retainer for the plug, in case that the mouth of the bottle or the plug are not properly finished so as to constitute a perfect joint.
It is obvious that the plug may be cemented in the mouth of the bottle and the ring 13 dispensed with, or other modifications and arrangements may be resorted to without departing from the essential features above described or from the scope of the appended claim.
After the bottle is filled and the parts inserted, a cork is placed in the mouth of the bottle and a cap of paper or tin foil placed thereon.
What I claim as new is:
In a bottle, the combination with a neck having a cylindrical mouth and a downwardly tapered interior separated by a circumferential groove, of a ball playing loosely. within the neck and adapted to fill the lower interior thereof, a plug having inwardly deflected perforations around its edges, a conical extension with a socket on its lower side and whose reduced base is within the perforations on that side of the plug and whose outer edge extends beyond the perforations, and a ring adapted to enga e the plug and the dividing groove.
