IN VE N TOR A TTORNE Y Tmz COLUMBIA IIANOuRAPH (30., WASHINGTON. D. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SVERRE CHRISTENSEN, OF ASTORIA, OREGON.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Application filed. July 1, 1918.
Z '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Svnnnn CHRISTENSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Astoria, in the county of Clatsop and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in non-refillable bottles and has for its principal object to provide a bottle of this character which can not be refilled by an unauthorized person, without detection.
I accomplish this and other objects by the peculiar combination and arrangement of the various elements as will be more fully set forth in the following specification, shown in the accompanying drawings and finally pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a similar elevation of the device showing edgewise view of the locking member and cap. Fig. 3 is a detailed view of the cover for one of the apertures in the bottle. Fig. 1 is an enlarged detailed view showing the key and a portion of the locking member. Fig. 5 is an elevation of the bottle contained in its tilting frame.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings numeral 1 indicates the bottle which may be of glass or other suitable material and having a pointed bottom as at 2 so that the bottle will not stand up erect as a flat bottom bottle will do; 3 indicates an ordinary tin cup which fits over the edge of the bottle in the manner well known; 4L is a strip of the same material from which the cap 3 is stamped and extends clownwardly to an opening 5 in the bottle. The lower end of the member 4 terminates in a cap 4 similar to the cap 3 and effectually closes the supplemental opening 5. Within the opening 5 and beneath the cap l is a plate 6 fixed within the supplemental opening and having numerous small apertures 7 therethrough. The member 4 has attached to it a key 8 of the form generally used for the opening of sardine boxes and the like.
The operation of my device is as follows: The bottle 1 is filled through the upper open Specification of Letters Patent.

ing as usual, the cap 3 is secured around the upper opening and the supplemental cap is secured around the supplemental opening 5. hen it is required to pour the contents from the bottle 1 the key 8 is turned which breaks the member 4 and wraps one portion of it around the key, after which the liquid may be poured out through the small apertures 7 in the plate (3 which is fixed to the inner side of the supplemental opening 5. The bottle, of course, when in use, is set in a suitable frame, which inclines the bottle at an angle with the supplemental opening 5 such as shown in Fig. 5, wherein 9 represents a support bar at right angles as plainly shown. From the foregoing it will be seen that it would be very tedious and difficult to refill the bottle through the supplemental opening 5 and especially is this true if the liquid be heavy such as catsup, etc. Besides this if an unauthorized person should so fill the bottle it could not be resold again without the fact becoming plain that the bottle had been refilled, because the member 4 would be destroyed as well as the supplemental cap 4. In other words when the bottle is filled for the first time the cap 3, member l, cap 4 and key S are all in their proper positions and when once destroyed by being opened, such destruction is evidence that it has been once opened.
lVhile I have shown a particular form of embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes may be made therein which would fall clearly within the spirit and scope of my invention and I do not therefore wish to be confined to the exact form hereinabove described, except as indicated in the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination, a non-refillable bottle comprising a body which tapers at its lower end to form a point and formed at its top with a. neck open at its end, the top edge of the neck being inclined, the upper portion of the body having an auxiliary opening, and
a one piece sealing element having a cap at opposite ends to fit over and close the open.-
ing in the neck and the auxiliary opening in close the openings in the neck and the body the body. of the bottle. 10 2. In combination, a non-fiilable bottle In testimony whereof I afiix my signature provided with a neck, the upper end of in the presence of two Witnesses. 5 which is inclined and an opening formed SVERRE CHRISTENSEN.
in the upper portion of the body of the bot- Witnesses: tie, and a sealing element comprising a fleXi- MARGUERITE LEYDA, ble strip and caps at each end of the strip to FRED P. GORIN.
